I have an 8' tank with dual corner overflows. But unlike most reef-ready tanks, I have 3 holes in each ooverflow. I need this tank to be quiet at 1000-1200gph.
Given my options am I better off with a dual Herbie setup or a BeanAnimal?
Dual Herbie overflows seem like they would be a PITA to keep adjusted correctly.
I was planning on using one hole in each overflow to use a balace pipe to connect the two overflows. Then I could use the remaining 4 holes for the BeanAnimal drains as well as a return.
So which option makes the most sense?
And if I use the BeanAnimal, hiw should I split the drains between the overflows.
And what size holes would you use. I can select different sizes (within reason). But the 2 corner overflows can't be changed for several reasons.

Thanks

It may work with the balance pipe depending on distance and size of the pipe. The issue there is stagnation in the balance pipe if things are actually always fairly balanced. I don't think it is a huge issue, but something to consider.

The balance pipe will probably be about 6' in length, and I was planning a 1.5" pipe.
Given one overflow will have the siphon and therefore pull considerably more volume than the other, do you think that should minimize any stagnation risks with the balance pipe constantly pulling from the lower volume overflow?
And would you try this over dual Herbies?

There are a lot of variables and it is possible that the balance pipe could allow the siphon to pull water to its box from the other faster than that box fills from the overflow.

I just don't have good answers for you. Other people with corner overflows have setup my overflow in one box and used the other as a DSB and return plumbing.

You could setup the full system in one box and an open channel in the other (using the other holes as returns) and set the level by the height of the standpipe. You could also valve it way back and use it as a herbie with just enough flow to keep the water from going stagnant. The overflow setup in the other box would be (to an extent) self tuning.
