Bi-Color Torch Pest/Disease Identification

Hey all,

I added a Torch to my tank about 4 weeks ago. It was doing great and seemed to be adapting fine to my tank. Lately Ive noticed a couple things of concern, could someone please try to identify and let me know if anything should be done?

First there is this hair like strand coming off the right side of the skeleton. I cut this growth back originally when the torch was added but its grown back.

There is some sort of white almost powder towards the bottom of the right head.

Finally there seems to be some sort of fuzz growing under the left side skeleton.

Are any of this a major concern? Coral was dipped when it was added to tank.

I don't see anything that gives me great concern accept perhaps the lack of extention of the polyps, but new corals can take some time to settle in. Does it extend any more during the day than this? Did it use to extend more than what is shown?

Hey Kris, yes it used to extend much more a couple weeks ago. I removed whatever was growing on the skeleton and seems to be doing a little better. Heres a pic from 2 weeks back.

Did you use a brush to clean the skeleton? You might have injured the fleshy polyp? It looks like it retracted a bit and those fuzzy spots look like guts that have herniated on the edge? Hopefully it will heal.

That little curly maroon shell is a Vermatid snail.. scrape it off or crush it with some pliers etc.. while these don’t kill corals they do irritate them.

It actually looks as though there's a vermetid snail on the skeleton directly under where the flesh is being irritated.

Yes I believe your both correct about the growths being vermetid snails. I removed them all Sunday night and the torch seemed to be much happier yesterday. I'll check in when I get home and see if its gotten better.

Looks like the torch is certainly doing better than the past couple weeks. The head that lost a lot of flesh isnt recovering as much, hopefully both pull through...

Posting a follow-up on this thread. The Hammer is still hanging on but it isnt looking great. What was the healthy head is not starting to show the same signs as the other head. I've taken up to date pictures showing what looks like worms, or the corals guts? Can anything be done at this point? As a last ditch effort I've moved the hammer up in the tank into more flow and lighting.
