Does this look like the beginning of BJD? My walling hammer has been moody the last couple days and just noticed this spot that receded quite a bit. Any help would be appreciated.

Just looks like it’s retracting for the night. How’s it look in the day time ?

First picture you can see it on the right side behind the golden hammer. It was opening up like crazy.

Second picture was just taken now. Looks like some tissue loss. Any suggestions to halt the tissue loss would be really appreciated. I know walling hammers are a pain in the butt though.

I would give the coral a dip and use a turkey baster to gently make sure the dip gets between the polyps.
I use an aquaforest product (AF dip), but any dip with some antibacterial ingredient would be good.

I've seen that type of retraction before and it often progresses it you don't stop it early.

I have cipro and amox on hand as well as lugols and can do a hydrogen peroxide wash in pre and post. Do you think this will be effective enough?

I think they are all too aggressive and likely to further stress the coral.

I'd simply use a commercial coral dip rather than oxidizers or antibiotics.

Going to do a dip and will report the results. Fingers crossed..

I’d rather cipro if confirmed BJD . Never had a problem with stressing corals . In fact each time I’ve done it my corals responded with fluffier polyps.
But going by the first photos I don’t see any bj

Agree. I don't see BJD either. That's why I would not recommend antibiotics just yet

Okay.

Watch it for a couple of days post dip. Gentle flow with the polyps gently swaying.
If any critters come out of the coral when dipping post a pic of the critter.
Im about 2 hours through a 4 hour KFC dip right now. I will make sure to keep you guys updated and thank you for all the assistance.

I don’t see any bjd. What’s water parameters? And how much flow
Ryan,

Apologies I didn't respond to this earlier.

Salinity : 1.025
Alk : 8.4
Po4 : 0 (Just fed some reef roids to get this up a bit)
Cal : 420
Mag : 1410

It's in a fairly low flow spot.

I dipped it and unfortunately it came out looking horrid. I got rid of it since I would rather not have it contaminate my display tank.
