Final Tank tours HK.

Hi Everyone. Hope your all enjoying your little oceans in your homes.

as you know I’ll be leaving HK later this year and I thought it would be nice to show everyone and the rest of the world how we do things on the Hong Kong reefing scene.

Since I have a little bit of free time before I leave I thought I’d try to get around to as many of our members tanks as I can and get some pictures to share. I have two lined up in the coming month so far one of which will be an aquascape transformation with addition of drag tank update. Another is one of the most well maintained frag systems I have ever seen.

If any of you HK reefers would like to have a visit please feel free to respond to this post of PM me and we can arrange a visit.

Looking forward to the new few months. Watch this space.

Hey everyone. So tank tours HK is underway and the first visit was an interesting one. I got to help a fellow club member with an entire rescape of his 4ft water box reef which was pretty cool.

This is a system I’m familiar with as I plumbed in his frag system a couple of years ago now along with a full electrics install, So it only made sense that we strip clean and redo the frag system with the new frag racks that I recently built for him .

I remember when we first installed this tank, this member was no stranger to fishy things as he had a freshwater fish farm in Thailand, . He got into reefing not so long ago but has been amazingly successful and at one point had some of the most amazing corals in his system.

I attribute this to his very strict QT program which is super nice to see. I can’t say there any many local reefers doing that these days. Which I can understand due to the lack of space here in Hong Kong.

Unfortunately he lost his passion to his own admission and let the tank go a little. Hopefully today we have changed that and given him a “new” and fresher reef that I have no doubt will continue on to be another great Hong Kong reef tank full of exciting creatures once again.

Throughout the evening we removed rock, sifted through the coral graveyard that we all have hiding behind our rock scape, scraped algae along with sheets of GSP and did our best to avoid the bristle worms, don’t need that to end the day do we . We even did a bit of fragging to while we were at it. (FYI you HK reefers) and of course Mr fluffy never misses the opportunity for a photo shoot .

I’ll try to do another update on this tank in a few months time to see how it’s progressing. Until then I’ll leave you all with some before and after shots and what went on in between. As well as his little pod farm we all wished we had space for.

We have another tank tour coming up soon to a rather special tank that I’m super excited to see. and it will definitely be worth the wait so come back in the middle of June for that one.

Hey everyone. Second tank tour visit today. And boy do I have some eye candy for you.


As I eluded to in the previous post, this one was going to be rather special and I was not disappointed in the least. Even if the owner did clean the glass 10 min before our arrival lol.

Little background then before we see the rainbow. This tank was upgraded about a year ago, so rather new. The corals are from a previous tank. But as you’ll see, the owner has no trouble growing and fragging them. To the point he has to decide which ones to sacrifice (give away) to creat more space for the new frags. (The problems some of us have eh)

He likes to keep things simple he says. And on that note is dosing Alk/Ca with a dosing pump. And believe it or not nothing els. At all.

Lights are Radions, and interestingly he is running all three at various settings. He likes to experiment and has notice a fairly large range of coloration in his corals under each light. The best colours in this tank are a result of 100%W/B with 70% UV.

The acrylic cover (love covers or hate them) were tailored locally and I thought I’d share these as I found the fixing design to be rather cool and simple. Maybe they could give others ideas. These could even be made adjustable with a little thought.
