Flash Off Your Flasher and Fairy Wrasses!

Hey guys, drop photos of the flasher and fairy wrasses you have in your tanks! Let me know the size of the tank and how many you have as well as their names! Pictures of tanks ranging from 120-180 gallons will be most appreciated as my tank is 150 gallons. But any and all pictures and sizes of tanks are welcome! I’ve made several stock lists and got them approved by several wrasse experts from here but this fish is so diverse I just can’t choose!

I currently have:
Yellow Coris Wrasse
Ornate Leopard Wrasse
Blue Throated Fairy Wrasse
Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse

But I will be getting rid of the ornate leopard wrasse in order to add more fairy and or flasher wrasses and I will most likely also get rid of the Blue Throated Fairy wrasse. Maybe I am hoping to replace it with a Naoko Fairy Wrasse, let me know if it will be a good decision and also what other fairy and or flasher wrasses I will be able to keep with them so that I am able to see them flash all throughout the day!

Currently since I don’t have many male wrasses and only the blue throated fairy wrasse he doesn’t flash at all, he only does it when the blue streak goes to clean him

The only wrasse in my 450 liters for now. Goes by many names, red head solon fairy wrasse is one.

I used to have a big Adorned wrasse but let it go, it kept killing snails.
This guy has since gotten brighter in colors i feel, and is much more on display.

Blue throats can have quite a mean streak. Probably not a bad idea to remove it if you want other fairies (or at least remove him until others get established and re-add). And Naoko can be testy as well, so might want to add that last or close to last if you go that direction.

I vote keep the leopard. They are too cute and shouldn’t have problems with any fairies.

Very pretty specimen. A great example of a beautiful pintail.

That’s a beautiful wrasse! I’ve looked at solons before but I’m worried that they won’t look the best under blue light.

Yeah I really wanted to keep both the Naoko and Blue throated together, but I heard that it probably won’t be possible, and then I’ve also heard and seen some people do it, both abroad and in my home country. So I might get the Naoko and see what happens, if everything is Alr then great, but if it isn’t then I’ll remove the blue throat.

I will have too many fish in the tank if I don’t remove the leopard

I was hoping that after I remove it, I’ll fill out the tank with all the other fish and corals and once everything has grown out a bit and established nicely after about 2 years I will get a Choat’s Red Leopard.

Do you think if I add the following wrasses at the same time it might work out with the blue throat? Also will this list make him and all the others flash more often? I can also remove him from the tank and keep him in the refugium for a few days, add these fish, and add him back after a week or so. I can also just put him in an acclimation box for a week inside the tank. Let me know!

Flasher flashes a lot more than fairies. I use mirror a lot and they flashes with mirror.
I think the mirror really mimics natural territory disputes in the wild. I think it really help the wrasses stay colorful.
Bắt my tank is a 329.
Initially when I added the Blue throat early, I have to return it because there were constant fishing with my aquamarine. They were very evenly match and neither would give up. When I added it the second time , a much smaller Blue throat he get along with other wrasse. He eventually be one the alpha wrasse of the tank.
I do think that the problem is having agressive and evenly match wrasses rather than having agressive species at lease in my large tank with the large numbers of wrasses.

I like flashers and fairies (and all wrasses), but if I really had to choose, I’d probably have a preference for fairies. Not because of anything wrong with flashers, but just because I thinks there’s more variety and a little longer lifespan on fairies, and there’s something really cool about the “presence” a fully developed fairy has in a tank.

Which fish would I suggest? It depends on budget and preference for colors/look. A 150g tank means you have a lot of options. A good place to start would probably be to find a species that makes you say “oh, I have to have that” and then build a compatible stocking list around that. If had to recommend a specific species, I’m really partial to Pintail faries (they are peaceful and wimpy though). After all these years, I still think they provide some of the best “wow” for the money. And there’s colorful flashers that can be had for <$100, and I like the Carpenter’s.

And @OrionN suggestion about the mirror is awesome. I had never used a mirror for wrasses, only to mitigate tang aggression in the past. I now put the mirror up for “20 minutes of hate” a couple times a week to get the wrasses’ blood pumping. My exquisite is particularly responsive. It’s awesome.
