"Alleged". Funny guy. I think the fact that Ryan has contributed so much to the growth and success of the hobby, even though he sold products, that this is potentially big news for the hobby in general. He made his bones. His new goal is to further help the hobby with no influence from any commercial interests. Is this thread a "massive promotion"? Apparently, you haven't read through most of this thread. It's been anything but a promotion.

Would I pay to subscribe to your reefer's channel? I have no idea who you are.

To be fair, for me it is alleged. I started this hobby I believe right around or possibly even before Ryan began doing his thing (I started in 2003). But then again I’m not a celeb/influencer follower and if Ryan walked up to me right now, I likely would not even recognize him. Much like 9.9/10 celebrities. Unless they’re an ultra A-list recognizable celebrity I’m not going to recognize you.

Regardless, the same can be said for many reefing book authors. If Calfo, Fenner, Veron, etc (I don’t even know who if any are still alive or not) walked up to me, again. Not going to recognize them.

So I guess hobby influence boils down to where you get the information. His videos obviously helped you and others you know so he’s contributed a lot to this hobby, in your opinion. My opinion, he’s not done much of anything significantly impactful. Idk, I really don’t care. It’s just odd to me the site is promoting a paid channel that has no visible influence on the forum.

I am starting a podcast! My podcast is going to be based on giving “unbiased” information with my friend Elliot who will also give unbiased information on taking care of fish. Not personal to me. I'll do what I want regardless of what others rage over. I perceive many of these negative rants as as envy-based aggression.

I am not a fan of most "content" of that nature, nor was I of the BRS content. That does not mean it was not valuable to other people or that I want Ryan to fail, or that other's should either.

I don't care if he or BRSTV was biased or not -- one would be insanely naive to think it it wasn't. Everything is, including the people consuming it or swearing and upset that it is biased.

R2R has a vested interest in promoting the hobby, and if Ryan has a significant following in the hobby, then it makes sense. The, a rising tide lifts all boats, thing... Add to that the clear fact that Rev and Ryan are friends and it makes even more sense.

Nobody said that Rev can't promote things of his interest to him or his business and decide not to promote something that you feel is important. You are free to start a site and run it in any way you wish. That said, it certainly appears to me that rev bends over backwards to be accommodating and open to the thoughts and wishes of the people that subscribe to his forum.

As for Ryan's motives, given his business history and how they came about and evolved and the fact that he is not doing this for "free" -- it does not take a rocket scientist to understand that he hopes to profit from it, or at the very least have it pay its own way. None of that is bad -- don't make him out to be evil because he feels that he has valuable enough insight to monetize his content. You, the buyer can decide if it is worthwhile.

It certainly feels like people like to be upset about things, just for the sake of being upset. So no, I am not personally excited for Ryan's new project (thus my grumpy old man... meh) and will likely never watch a video, but I do wish him success and by proxy, anybody who follows him and what he has to say.
