Hello!

I am new to the hobby. My favorite coral of all in my 180 Gal reef is a Goniopora that has been in the tank for 7 months.... The coral is thriving but is now (I think) being threatened by a Green Star Polyp that is growing very fast and inclusting into the rock were the Goni is.... I dont know what is going to happen when the GPS reaches the Goni... will it kill or suffocate it? I know i can break the rock and separate them but I dont want to risk moving the Goni as I could affect the light or flow and stress it.... Any advice or PREDICTIONS? Please see pictures... GSP is getting close...

GSP for the win. GSP grows much faster, and I am inclined to think there is probably subtle chemical warfare going on.

I have had success with a surgical scalpel, but it really just comes down to the rock itself… it peels easier off of the epoxied joints for instance than off of the super porous bits of Marco.

I’d experiment with a throwaway section that doesn’t put your goni at risk.
