I'm in kind of the same boat. However I don't regret the Hydros controllers I've invested in. I love the way they look and the ease of use. I'm giving them a couple of months to at least announce some kind of new anticipated date, if we don't get any new information I'm just going to go with the newer generation of reefbot. They've apparently made a lot of improvements.

When I talked to the CoralVue management team and lead engineer last spring about the Maven, their release date plans seemed genuine. There are many factors that could alter the release of a technology product.

It’s ridiculous. I bought the hydros in anticipation of the Maven being available. If it really was a ploy, that really discredits them.
It is not a ploy. They have had them working at several of the shows they attended. I believe them when they said there were some improvements they wanted to make before coming out with them instead of bringing them out and then coming out with a version 2 that is better. That would also make people that bought the first one upset and it would why didn't they just wait and come out with the improved one to begin with. Once they do make the changed they need time to make enough of them for the initial release sales also. I don't think we will hear anything until they are ready to ship to their dealers.

Maybe but when Steve Jobs first showed the Mac, it didn’t work properly and his engineering team had to rush to fix it and he was simply lucky it didn’t fail during the presentation. So just because they have it work during shows, it doesn’t mean it’s ready for prime time and could still need a lot of work.

Also they would have been aware of this before they announce the release date. I have no idea when it will be available, months?, years? Do I need to buy a mastertronic before it comes out? I would have just gone with another apex and trident if I knew it was going to take so long. Frankly any marketing department is going to say they are “making improvement” when they miss the deadline. Aka just making it work consistently and accurately for a long time without need for service

As time has progressed, it is more acceptable for businesses to launch now and fix things later to get ahead of the market. Sometimes it backfires and sometimes it doesn't.

If you take CV at their word, they would prefer to not do this and ship a complete and viable product. Fair enough.

At the same time, it may be that they jumped the gun on product announcement and maybe even a release date -- maybe in hopes of getting ahead of the market and preventing people from buying into the competition, or maybe because they thought they could meet that date. The reality is that short of some type of admission or leaked information -- you will never know.

It all is what it is... I am not going to beat CV up for the situation. I will beat them up for the patently ridiculous product naming convention, absolutely useless platitude and buzzword focused website and lack of feature matrix and what I consider ridiculous form factor. I still look forward to the product launch and honestly look forward to trying one of them out in hopes that it does what it is supposed to do and can do it stand-alone at a reasonable consumable cost. I have serious doubts, but would love to be wrong.

I’ve waited years for George RR Martin to finish A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, and even longer for Patrick Rothfuss to complete THE KINGKILLER CHRONICLES. I’m frustrated by these delays. I want the new books! But it would never occur to me to complain that the authors are involved in some ploy, or are in any way dishonest. Sheesh.

It’s hard to run a company. It’s hard to create and distribute new products. Give them a break. If you can’t wait, don’t.

Omg, did we just become besties?! Same same, love kingkiller chronicles! Been waiting 5 yrs for book three.

So I can wait for a better product. It seems like a testament to their character to be honest.

You learned an important life lesson: never buy something based on future updates/features

If something doesn’t do what you want at the time of purchase, wait for it to release the features or buy something else

If anyone has paid attention in the least with these auto testers they’d know the Maven was never coming out by Black Friday. Every company has been late on release dates. This was 100% foreseen and expected by many

Ridiculous? Care to elaborate?
The absurdity is that they promised a release date during the holidays when controllers were 10-20% off. Hydros does not have (an available auto tester) and they promised by Black Friday. That didn’t happen, I work in corporate and I understand how this works. No doubt they hoped it be ready, BUT they didn’t actually know and yet promised. It was a classic marketing ploy to say it’s late because they are adding new features. It’s much more likely that they rushed the release date and they knew there were issues. It’s poor business practice.

I see what you’re saying but you’re talking about at 20-30 dollar book with no peripherals. I chose the Hydros over the Apex due to the Maven. They did not meet their promise. I can’t say for sure but it’s not unlikely leadership pushed a date because of holiday sales and the engineers were like “it’s not gonna happen”. I’ve seen it happen over and over, in multiple industries.

They didn't promise the date. If I remember correctly they said they hoped to have it ready by that date. I will continue to test the way I am unit it becomes available. I do have auto alkalinity testing already using the iV.

I don't see where they ever promised anything. If push comes to shove, they may have indicated by black Friday was a target... or one of their partners let it slip and they couldn't put the genie back in the bottle... who knows.

I have no skin in the fight. I look forward to the product, but likewise don't care if it ever ships. I am more than willing to point out my issues with CV and this product line, but I see no foul with regard to the product marketing timeline. If anything, they shot themselves in the foot with poor planning and to that end I don't buy the blurb about adding features now instead in V2 -- especially in the fact that Carlos keeps repeating it to ensure that it is the narrative. My honest guess is that they can't one ore more tests to work reliably or a reagent to be stable... and don't want to head down the same path GHL found themselves in with ION-D.

Getting into semantics here. The point is, it’s very likely they made this statement to cash in on Black Friday sales. They still haven’t told customers when it’d be available. A good engineer doesn’t promise a product that’s not ready for prime time. That’s marketing.

I keep replying and keep deleting what I put down. My mind is racing 1,000 miles per hour and my fingers in slow motion trying to articulate what I want to say without coming across as a Richard. I'm going to lose no matter what I do here so will just say this.

Honestly if you bought into the ecosystem based on a future product that was the risk you decided to take. I am not making excuses for vendor or hobbyist here because, well, things happen. Things you nor I know and only those who hold the Hydros cards (i.e. employees).

I understand you are disappointed but the automated tester is not going to make or break your reef.

Hope your day is well.

As a new Hydros owner, I appreciate the delay when they knowingly could have just released a version 2 with improvements, but a business cannot possibly please everyone.

Plus, no vendors were taking pre-orders based on the expected release date. Not only do I love their approach, but I view it as ethical business.

Plenty of companies out there are happy to sell cr*p as soon as humanly possible and I am glad they opted not to follow the Call of Duty model and release a new version of the same thing every year with slight changes.

How? There was only one place for the pre-order and I think that was even taken down for some time... and there was no sale...

They still haven’t told customers when it’d be available. A good engineer doesn’t promise a product that’s not ready for prime time. That’s marketing.
They said a few months - putting it first quarter likely of this year.

You are angry because they announced a product too early.
You are angry because they missed the target delivery date.
You are angry because they won't give you a new delivery date.

However, if they did give you a new data and they miss it, you will be angrier.
However, if they give you a date way out in the future to cover their butts, you will likely be angry that it is too far away.

You are just angry, so short of them sending you one tomorrow, they can't win I suppose.

Again, I am no fan... but at least be fair in your anger :)
