So I just started my tank. I've been using the API Saltwater kit to test while waiting for the maven to come out. I'm at the point I want to start dosing alk and calc. But I need to test. I hastly got the alkalinity Hanna checker and have no way to test for calcium. So do I just order half a dozen checkers or is there a "cheap" and accurate way to get me through until the maven arrives?

A little delay is reasonable but we’re approaching a year and it’s hard to feel as though it’s genuine. It makes me doubt that they had more than a few pre-production units working consistently. At 6 months I would have given them the benefit of the doubt but a year is an entire new product in product development lifecycles.

I’ve decided to pull all of my Hydros products in favor of Apex as a result. I know most won’t or aren’t able to but money talks in this business.

How? There was only one place for the pre-order and I think that was even taken down for some time... and there was no sale...

They said a few months - putting it first quarter likely of this year.

You are angry because they announced a product too early.
You are angry because they missed the target delivery date.
You are angry because they won't give you a new delivery date.

However, if they did give you a new data and they miss it, you will be angrier.
However, if they give you a date way out in the future to cover their butts, you will likely be angry that it is too far away.

You are just angry, so short of them sending you one tomorrow, they can't win I suppose.

Again, I am no fan... but at least be fair in your anger

That feels like a large step backward -- but that is just me. You couldn't give a complete Apex system for free at this point.

My criticism is completely fair misplaced.
There I fixed it for you :)

Are you on their staff or something?
Sure not - if I were:
- components would not have silly names that don't follow any convention.
- features would have standard naming conventions instead of catchy words.
- components would have a uniform and modular form factor.
- components would have connectors all facing the same direction.
- ecosystem would have some sense order with regard to features and modularity.
- website would be useful with actual product information and specifications clearly articulated.
- website would have a product matrix so customers could actually figure out what products do.
- passive chips would be properly heatsinked (active cooled if needed) and/or cases would have heatsinks as needed.

I hope that helps answer your question :)

It isn't a step backward but it is overreacting a bit. If it even happened.

Hobbyist have different experiences with equipment as you know and they all have their quirks. Not trying to sway you obviously.

Thus the "-- but that is just me" portion of the response.

Of course people have their own opinions :)

That we do. The icing on the cake is when those with different views can still be friendly towards one another knowing we share a common passion. For that I thank you and others like.

Hope your day is well.

With few exceptions "better" is simply the opinion of the beholder. Now if we are talking "bacon" vs "tofu" - I will accept no opinion other than "tofu sucks". There are lines to my friendliness.

I’m not sure how you can consider it misplaced, I can’t get a crucial component for my system and they haven’t given a new date. We’ll have to agree to disagree.

I think you misplaced my point :face-with-rolling-eyes:

But that is okay too.

Happy Reefing!

Define crucial.

I personally do not understand why you are so upset or feel slighted because they changed a date. Only employees of Hydros know why it was pushed back. We has hobbyist only know what they tell us. It is up to individuals to believe it or not. If you are of the type to read between the lines or blur it with conspiracy theories more power to you. It sounds exhausting to me though.

If you are that upset sell your stuff and move on. However I think a few of us believe you are over reacting by stomping your size 12 foot down with folded arms and a frowny face demanding a date. It just is not going to happen.

And I'm not even in the Hydros ecosystem and think this.
