I've been collecting my Hydros stuff for a tank build and today, when I'm ready to pull the trigger on the final piece (XP8), I notice that everyone has increased the price to $300.99 (up from $280-ish). :(

I guess I took too long to get it ordered.

If you run a Small business, you realize everything continues to increase, cost of parts, insurances, wages, overhead in general. Don't assume its tariffs or price gouging, most likely it's a business covering costs

This is true...

but tarrifs are also something they need to cover cost for. Seems like it is the same as all the other costs.

They were probably going to raise it either way but may raise it more in the future down the line if costs continue to rise.. wherever those costs come from.

I run a "small business" and I haven't increased my customers costs. I've just eaten the increases. My profit goes down while they keep money in their pocket. They appreciate it and I'm still very successful. Actually grew my business by over 140% last year because of it.

That model will only work so long. If a widget has a profit margin of 10 cents last year but this year it's a penny, next year you may be losing a penny on every widget. Increase business 10-fold but your losing money on every widget.

Nope. Because I don't deal in low margin sales. My cost of service is less than 18% all in. I can eat this for decades and still turn a profit. Now your example works if you are dealing with items with tiny margins. But that isn't a good business model to begin with.

That said these controllers better have somewhere in the 40% profit margin. Especially since most of the parts are off the shelf.

Lots of businesses run on tiny margins ask any restaurant owner, it's about turnover. If a restaurant cost of Goods were 18% all in like yours, you would be paying $ 93.00 for a burger and fries. I do not begrudge you, I run a small business like you, with a profit margin of 70%, and have been at 70% for 16 years. and I will make 70% 5 years from now as well, even though I could take a lose

No. They raised pricing on TSA atleast 2 weeks ago. And tariffs weren’t active then.
Anyone in manufacturing right now has already begun to build in the price increases due to tariffs. Depending on the rate at the time you cut the purchase orders, you might get lucky and come out even with the exchange.

Hard to ignore tariffs when 95% of cabling, 100% of chips and boards, and a large percentage of pre formed moods are all coming from one of the targeted countries…

This is just the start. Wait until it hits non-luxury markets.

What? We don't get 95% of our cabling and 100% of chips and boards overseas lol. We have quite a bit of domestic production.

No one manufacturing consumer line production goods is using expensive US cables. Maybe aerospace or project work but not for stuff like this.

I bet Hydros would say so if they were sourcing the components locally…

And that is the problem. As someone who has sourced these things the pricing isn't that different. Especially if you want to buy large lots. But they count 1-2 cents and say screw the country. Because in the short term they get rich and get rich fast. They will cut and run when the times get tough.

Do people even think what happens when we have NO manufacturing jobs and no business because we want to save 1-2 cents on a wire? You have NO sales. Vicious circle. But don't worry. The CEOs and management already cut and run and are living a nice lifestyle.

The really funny thing about all of this. Aliexpress used to be literal pennies on the dollar. Now pricing with shipping from them is only maybe 5-10% less on most goods.

Oh I’m not arguing with the impact of the loss of manufacturing, just that the impact of tariffs will start to be felt moving forward. This is the intended outcome.

Of course they will. But this isn't tariffs. This was done on a few websites atleast 2 weeks ago. Before the tariffs were announced.

The intended outcome is not for Americans to feel it. The intended outcome is to force manufacturers to bring their business back to the worlds largest consumer of their goods or pay the price. Eventually Americans won't need to consume those items. Atleast 2 Canadian food manufacturers have already said they are moving to America where 80% of their business is conducted.
