If you get your fish from a clean LFS do you need to quarantine them? I got my first fish from this clean and modern (expensive) LFS and I put them straight in the main tank without quarantining them. I want to get more fish from them, but do I really need to quarantine them in copper power for 40 days?

I guess you're going to find out ;)

I'm just kidding, but what do you mean by a "clean" LFS? Did they have a QT protocol that they adhere to and shared with you?

They charge high price for their fish.

They have modern UPC scanners for their products.

They do not take in fish donations.

They are not a cheap mom and pop fish store.

They have UV filters in their tanks.

None of this makes their fish clean.

Where do they get their fish? If wholesalers then the fish were mixed with all the same fish as the cheap not clean LFS and they are no different except in price.

Uv does not cure disease but may mask it.

My friend, and I mean that :)

Nothing except possibly the UV sterilizers means anything substantial here that would lead me to believe they are "clean", and that's assuming they are running the UV's for parasite control.

Those variables don't denote a distributor as a clean LFS.

Just ask them what their quarantine procedure is. Some stores have one and some dont. If they dont, it will matter a lot more as you add more fish. Once you have a tank full of nice fish, one sick fish can take them all out. The stakes go up the further along you get.

I went to a dirty wholesaler, there was water and Styrofoam boxes and stuff everywhere. But with many thousands of fish I only saw one tank where aggression had caused some potential disease issues, and other than that I saw only 1 dead fish in all of their tanks. I would call that a clean establishment for fish but they obviously knew how to keep them healthy in their systems. They were feeding some shrimp like food, whole organisms that the fish were eating quickly.

I have been to LFS with clean floors and aisles but the fish in the tanks were suffering. Many of these shops run low dose copper to cover the symptoms of sickness.

Look at the fish, not at the floor unless you have children in tow.

In the nicest way I can say, beyond fish disease, you may want to investigate your assumption that "expensive" means good in this hobby ;) You'll probably have a much for fruitful tank if your barometer is based on another metric.
