My branching hammer is my favorite. Probably 15 years or older at this point.

Hard to say with photos but based on the image you shared I have one that is similar. It was in a 40 breeder and took over more or less with a bunch of rose bubble tips :). Both forced me to upgrade to my 210 - lol. However, during the move the hammer got hit the hardest with not liking such a young tank (150 lbs of dry pukani will do that) and I lost most of it but one small head. It is growing out now rather well but a long process to what it was.

Nice photo and shows how large they can get in proper conditions. Personally I like that color a lot.

Edit: forgot to say it looks natural from a scuba divers point of view.

Sorry to hear yours didn’t survive the move. I know these aren’t the fastest growers, so it will take a long time to regrow from one head.

I appreciate the the scuba comment. I was ready to get certified , but found out that I was unable to clear my ears on my deep water dive, so I never finished my certification. I really wanted to see these things in their natural habitat. If you ever want another piece, I’d be happy to help. I know I’ll be upset if I ever lose this coral. It’s been with me a long time.

I love hammer corals, I've tried frogspawn but can't seem to keep it. The hammer I have I bought as 2 heads 14 or so years ago. I think the pro is they grow well and branching types are easy to frag. The con being is they take up a lot of real estate in small tank
This is my 24 gallon lps dominant tank.

It is a majority of 1 colony broken up. There are 2 torches and 2 other types of hammer in there too. A couple mushrooms and some zoas. I just like the movement of euphillias.

Love my LPS tank! I enjoy looking at my LPS reef more than my others these days! My favorite LPS will always be most any variety of super thick torch but currently my Yellow hammer and Orange hammer along with my Rainbow Goniopora are my favorite!

I LOVE LPS. For sure my favorite category, probably euphillia if I had to pick. That said, my favorite tank is mixed. Nothing makes LPS pop more than being beneath a bunch of sticks and surrounded by zoas :)

LPS, specifically Euphyllia, are by far my favorite, although, I appreciate just about any coral in the hobby. I have a variety of LPS, SPS, soft corals, and mushrooms in my NUVO Fusion 40, but it's definitely LPS dominant. My current coral count is:
  • LPS = 30
  • SPS = 15
  • Mushrooms = 9
  • Soft corals = 5
