If you get full light coverage, then it is fine. If you have shadowing on the ends, then move it up until everything is lit! There are not hard and fast rules around these things. I have one tank with some shadowing, so low light softies and palys (true palys) grow well there.

Light is now hung at 10” it was at 6” . Gsp has been hiding for 2 days , blues are at 35% and whites are at 15%Welcome to R2R!!!
Don't know much about that light fixture, but height isn't the only thing you have to worry about. You also have to worry about intensity on the light fixture, that can also harm corals. Not knowing much about that light I would suggest raising it to at least 8 in's and back off on intensity and then steady start to raise the intensity and look at how the corals r reacting, r they hiding or are they coming fully out and such. Good luck
If and when u start to raise the intensity I would only adjust the blues for a while and leave the whites at 10 to 15 percent.Light is now hung at 10” it was at 6” . Gsp has been hiding for 2 days , blues are at 35% and whites are at 15%
10% a week on my blues ? Right now I just have a frogspawn and gsp along with a Anemone , how often should o do a water change ? Tank is a 20 with a 5 gallon sump under it . I heard 10% a week which would be about 2.5 gallonsIf and when u start to raise the intensity I would only adjust the blues for a while and leave the whites at 10 to 15 percent.
Just dont raise it to much to quickly, when I raise my intensity I only raise it a couple percent and watch to see how my lps react for a couple of days, I am in the process of raising intensity for sps and seeing how high I can go before my lps cant take any more.
I have it 10” above now , whites are at 15% and blues at 35% was told to raise blues 10% a week . I run my blues from 11am- 6pm, whites 12-5pmLooks great. Welcome to the hobby!
Those lights are strong. Getting to the sand bed should't be an issue even if you had them 18" over the tank.
They can sometimes be very directional though and will tend to be VERY strong directly below the light and they can have "hot spots"

I have a different setup as far as lights go, but as my has been said above, i would keep my blue channels on for the whole duration of the lighting schedule and phase in my whites during the middle of the schedule. I always raised my lights no more than 3 percent weekly, but I have a completely different light setup. Someone who knows this light may be able to give you better advise on how much to raise it weekly. Personally though, I would only raise the blue channel for now.10% a week on my blues ? How long do you think I should run them for? Are you checking your nitrates and phosphates, too clean of a tank can actually hurt lps corals. They like a little elevated nitrates and phosphates, or as we say, a dirtier tank. If you have 0 nitaryes and phosphates then I would do a 10 percent water change every 2 weeks.
I always look at nature, natural sunrise and sunset. Do you have sunrise/sunset capability on the lights, if so then you could start at 8 and end at 8. Then turn the whites on in the middle of the schedule. If you don't have sunrise/sunset capability on the lights then I would bring the blues on from 9 am to 7 pm and have the whites on for 5 hours in the middle. You don't have to follow this schedule, this is an example. How long do you think I should run them for? My blues are on 11am to 6pm and whites are on 12-5pm
