Hi all!

I am setting up my very first 80 Gallon ref aquarium. I have bought a Red Sea Reefer XL 300, and filled the tank with saltwater.

Everything is running nicely, but there's this very loud noise happening when the water is coming down from the aquarium to the sump. Is this normal? or the water level is simply too low?

Am I missing anything?

Water level in the over flow box is to low. Adjust gate valve to raise it. I have the same tank and keep the water level in the box high enough so it just trickles into the emergency overflow pipe.

I too have that tank. Like Lavey said the water level is too low. It should be just below the emergency drain or just a trickle going down. If you haven't noticed it yet the RS valves are finicky so make small adjustments allowing time for the system to level out between. You may or may not have to adjust the water level in the sump so keep an eye on that while adjusting.

awesome thanks! I'm trying to keep it 1/3 inch below the overflow pipe, but struggling to get it done so precise. For now it has stopped making noise, and the water level is about 1 inch below the overflow pipe.

Thanks! I'm struggling having the right height. For now it has stopped making noise, and the water level is about 1 inch below the overflow pipe.

It will never stay consistent there for unknown reasons.
