To those arguing about framed vs not, if the tank doesn’t end up on the floor and the owner likes it, I’m not going to care how it’s built.
Thanks for stopping by, I always appreciate your advice with stand builds!

Me? If so, Thanks.. thats white melamine shelving from HD....less than $50.
Would you worry about the melamine getting wet at all? Did you clearcoat it or something? Thanks!

Here’s mine almost done a few weeks ago. I don’t have any pics of the finished product just yet. Had to change the flip-up door to a traditional door due to some potential plumbing clearance issues, and I haven’t mounted them yet.

It’s large it’s a 120 rimmed! 48x24. I want to make a canopy too possibly that open out not up because my ceiling in my basement would be too low. Sounds great!
Oh, that's a great tank. You'll love it. I had a 90g (18" deep) and would have LOVED 24"!!!!

Decades ago when I built my stand, it was a workhorse, not a decorative item. Then I bought a sea themed fabric shower curtain, and attached it all along the exposed side and front. Cheap, easy, and good enough at the time.

I thought about this too lol! I think it would be too tacky though for me at least.

aesthetics.....my choice was easy....4'x8'x1/4" semi-gloss melamine sheet mounted with magnets for easy access to bottom. Hindsight, I should have gone high-gloss piano finish.

My husband is really into the car scene and has a friend who’s a talented welder. His buddy built the frame, and we had it powder-coated by a professional. Then my husband worked his magic on all the woodwork. I helped pick the color and aesthetic. Team work! There are more details in our build thread if you’re interested.

Dual tanks sharing a common sump. 2x4s and cedar fence boards. Nominally inexpensive. I painted the hardware red as this system was going in my classroom where I teach and I've got an old metal secretary desk which I painted red about ten years ago (it's been my classroom desk for 23 years and I suspect it's existed for probably 30 years prior to that).

I ended up buying a used tank, sump, and stand. The stand was one of those Imagitarium Brooklyn Metal Tank Stand. It was a good combo but my wife hated that you could see the filtration equipment so I cut out some wood panels, painted them black, and used magnets to attach them so they're easy to remove to get access.

Set up for cleaning:

I started with an extruded aluminum frame and attached plywood to it. The panels on the sides pop out for access. They have a piece on the bottom that slides over the plywood boarder and used kid lock magnetic latches on top to hold them in place and keep my kids out of it. The removable panels are just pieces of plywood that I glued a frame around it using scrap molding I had.
