Is anyone using more than 2 units? is it possible?
I plan to add a 3rd in my 100g bare bottom just for the purpose of keeping detritus in the water column and not on the bottom. The other two are on the top of the back wall and work very well.

How loud are these things? Thinking of adding two the the back wall of a redsea reefer XXL750 with 2 mp40's on each end wall.

I really don't notice them. Now Maxspect gyres are a completely different story; I hear those all the time in my other tank.

They're pretty quiet

Getting them configured for the kind of flow you want in your tank , though, is another story.

Seems like they blast everything.

Was curious to revisit this thread and see if those owners still have their red sea gyres from a few years ago still running? How have they held up? Need any replacement parts over the years?

What issues have you run into, if any?

I still have mine sitting in it’s box unopened. I want to get a report or two before getting it wet.

Any more info on that?

Haven’t had any issues with my 45s coming up on a year

Seems like they’ve even whitelabeled by a lot of companies too

I love my gyres. Been running for a year strong. Clean every other month. Every third if I’m lazy. I have a lot of lps mainly so I run them at 40 percent for a while and the third month if I’m being lazy I up it to 60 percent to compensate for the drop off in power. I should do it more often considering how easy it is to clean the things honestly. I have four gyres and just swap out two at a time ( I got a steal from a tank breakdown and couldn’t resist. The guy sold me two extras for 150$ more brand new in the box because he had to move and couldn’t take the tank with him) I also just got a 265 gallon tank from a different breakdown and will be using all four of them because that tank I plan on doing more sps corals and they need a lot a lot of flow.

No pump issues.
Magnets… they’re strong enough to break your finger or at least draw blood and say that from personal experience . Be careful putt them on haha.

The reefbeat app is my only complaint. It had connectivity issues at first and that was annoying but once I got that over with it’s been good.

In my 90 gallon I put two on each side left and right and have them on random mode so the flow is kinda perfect right now tbh but flow in a tank can be a challenge even for the most experienced reefers.

I definitely do recommend the gyres.

I think eventually if I can find a good deal I’ll get some mp60s for the larger reef but not until I get it full of corals and they start creating dead or bad flow spots.

I figured I could give an update for any people needing info regarding these gyres in the future.

My Red Sea wave is essentially the same as my old maxspect gyres concerning water flow. I think the reef beat app is less than ideal as others have described. I originally was using a custom program via the app but the feed mode button never worked. During feedings I would just unplug the power cord to the controller and back in when done.

One day I plugged it back in and the pump never turned back on. I had cleaned the pump perhaps a couple of days prior to this without issue. Red Sea support was extremely responsive when I contacted them as the pump was not even 6 months old in use. They had me do testing and said it was a bad motor housing. They sent me a new one. I hooked it up and it still didn't work. They ended up saying it must be the controller and sent me another one and then I was able to get it working again. However, I haven't really been able to get the custom programming on reef beat to work so I am just using the controller now to control it.

It's still to. early to say they are better or equal to the maxspect equipment. But I can tell you I have had 3 maxspect gyres crap out on me for various reasons over a couple of years and just got tired of giving them money for expensive pumps that were very difficult to clean the magnet housing as that area is what ultimately locks up.

So I ended up getting a couple of mp40s for my 150gal and they seem pretty bulletproof. But they don't move water quite like the gyre style pumps. So far I like having the Red Sea wav overall.
