Do they need a larger "base" to keep growing? Or will its skeleton/flesh grow mostly up/outwards? Close up of the disk:

Looks like some flesh wrapping around the disk. Would it benefit from gluing the disk to a larger piece of rock rubble?

Thanks!
From what I have seen, the space invader grows upward mostly, a few people have had them grow outward more than upward. So, I wonder if there are a couple of different species (pectinia) of space invaders out there?

They don't need more base to grow upward, either they do or don't. Some species of pectinia will only grow so much base and will cover more height.

So,I missed this my brains all over the map. I would give it more rock, disk to spread on if it likes. Sometimes, you never know. They wont really encrust on sand, but they can build skeleton over the sand. Sand seems to slow down their growth though.

Awesome, that's what I'm looking for! A bit of extra rock underneath it also might keep the pitho from moving him around all the nmad time!

And, if you have animals who dig around the pectinia, that can cause irritation to the skin and cause it to peel back. So, elevating the pectinia will benefit.

On a sadder note, Pizza the Hutt was found dead earlier today in the back seat of his stretch limo. Evidently, the notorious gangster became locked in his car and ate himself to death.

Pectinia is insane. It is overgrowing its frag disk. Not sure what's next thing to do for it. @Goaway ???

As you can see in the last picture, I've got an explosion of vermetids going on. Probably from all the phyto/oyster feast I've been dumping in there for the corals. Need a plan! I'm thinking of a "vermetid crusher" tool, kind of like the flat end dental scrapers, to get in there, crush off their tubes and let the wrasses go at them. *shrug*
the best tool Ive found was a small pair of needle nose pliers. I had a pair that was designed for jewelry (much smaller than the regular, for tight spots) it worked the best of the methods I have tried.

That's a good one! I thought about using the bone cutters, but they aren't great at getting in tight spaces/corners. I'll look into needlenoses, maybe even curved ones. Thanks!

If you haven't voted yet, go rock the vote! I'm #15, but there are lots of great entries, and you can vote for more than one!

Also April voting poll is up (I'm not in it, but other friends are!)

Oh thank goodness. Some days it's a struggle just to get out the door (read: kids up, dressed, passably clean teeth, fed, packed, sunscreened, given a talkin to, dropped off at school 10 seconds before gate closes, smile at the other parents that got their shiza together, dogs walked, coffee). Hope the fish are doing better this morning.
