My first build out thread. I have been in the hobby 15+ years. The plan is to build a fish room in the basement. It will have two MT. I currently have a 80 gallon up and running. Haven’t don’t a lot with it as I knew I would be building a room around it. The current plan is to build out the room and get new 150 gallon tank running. At the same time get the QT tanks running.

Living room SPS Tank (Future):
MT: 24H x 48W x 30D
Refugium: Not sure
MT Lights: Not sure
Refugium Light: Kessil H380
COR-20 Pump with plan to add second one.
Controller: Apex
Dosing: Triton Core7
Skimmer: ELITE 200SSS 8" SUPER SPACE SAVER CONE PROTEIN SKIMMER
Fish: (2) Clownfish, (2) Tailspot blenny, (4) Squareback Anthias, Foxface, Purple Tang, Mandarin

Office room Tank (started Nov 2016) : Currently running needs moved or upgraded to larger tank.
MT: 16H x 48L x 24D
MT Lights: (2) Kessil 360W-E (2) 4ft 54Watt Dimmable T5
Refugium Light: H160 TUNA FLORA LED ALGAE GROW LIGHT
Filtration: BRS ROX .8 Carbon
Danner Mag 9.5
Controller: Apex
Dosing: Kalkwasser
CO2 scrubber
Skimmer: Reef Octopus eSsence S-130
Fish: Hoeven's Wrasse, Lawnmower Blenny, and Flame Fin Tang
Rose Bulb Anemone
Corals: Frogspawn, Aussie Blasto, CC Blueberry Fields, Utter Chaos Palys, Rasta Palys,Purple Monster Paly

It was a fun conversation with the wife that I was building a fish room, but needed two other spots for addition QT tanks. I tried to explain that the QT tanks needs to be 10 feet from the MT and each other. Midway through she just gave in.
20G coral QT tank
40G fish QT tank

Please tag along. I realize this hobby is always evolving. I’m always open to idea an other’s thoughts.

Framing has started. I have put plastic around my current tank. Trying to keep all the construction stuff out. I plan to open it up once the dust settles. I'm also having them cut in a drain for the room, so that will create a lot of dust as they have to cut into the cement floor.

During construction also realized the lights above the living room tank wont have much clearance. I think they will be good, but need to find a way to move the lights out of the way when I want to get into tank. Maybe some kind of rail system.

Is you kitchen and living room in the basement. That looks like a main support beam running through your fish room

No. It is a bar in the basement and extra living space. There is a steel main support running through the fish room.

Went a little crazy at the @WWC Auction. I got some great corals. Can't wait to get them in the tank. I got most the stuff I wanted and then sum. The only thing I didn't get was a Superman Digitata Montipora. I was able to grab two $5. I think I will also get a mystery frag.

The issue I’m hoping to resolve is stability with my Ph. Below is a picture of when the family was on vacation Jul 12th thru the 15th. I’m able to open the window and the Ph goes up.

I have been watching the video’s from @Bulk Reef Supply and checking out the posts about CO2 scrubbers. Here is my project list and build. I went with the larger version. I plan to move this over to the 150G once it is up and running.

The ball valve is used to allow non CO2 air from skimmer. When the valve is open it will pull air through CO2 scrubber and non CO2 scrubbed air. Non CO2 scrubbed air will kick in at 8.20 Ph. Skimmer will turn off if Ph is above 8.30 Ph. It is my first go at this. I’m guessing these numbers may change.

Ball valve
  • Motorized Ball Valve- 1/2" Stainless Steel Ball Valve with Full Port, 9-24V AC/DC and 2 Wire Auto Return Setup by U.S. Solid. (It is key you get the Auto Return)
  • (2) 1/2" MALE NPT X 1/2" PUSH CONNECT
  • Neptune Systems DC24 TO BARE WIRE ACCESSORY CABLE
  • Code on APEX for 24VDC Accessory Output A
  • Fallback OFF
    • If pH < 8.10 Then OFF
    • If pH > 8.20 Then ON
    • Defer 05:00 Then OFF

CO2 Scrubber
  • Bulk Reef Supply JUMBO CO2 SCRUBBER
  • COLOR CHANGING CO2 ABSORBENT MEDIA
  • (2) 1/2” Female NTP x 1” Male NTP
  • (2) 1/2" MALE NPT X 1/2" PUSH CONNECT
1565203127465.png

Skimmer lid
  • Skimmer lid
  • Leftover foam
  • Super glue
  • ½ POLYETHYLENE RO TUBING
  • ½ to ½ RO ELBOW UNION PUSH CONNECT
  • APEX Skimmer code
    • If pH > 8.30 Then OFF

After assembly

Air Exchange

  • (3) 1/2" MALE NPT X 1/2" PUSH CONNECT

After assembly
1565203090102.png

T connectors
  • ½ POLYETHYLENE RO TUBING
  • (2) ½ to ½ RO TEE UNION PUSH CONNECT
  • ½ RO INLINE BALL VALVE PUSH CONNECT

I installed on Wednesday Aug 7th. I was able to leave the windows open this week also. I'm not seeing what I would hope to see. On the 12th I left the windows closed. I'm going to post something on the help forum. Maybe my Reef Octopus eSsence S-130 isn't big enough to make a difference.
