Not me, just relaying the discussions I've had with others. This one in particular I would classify as an expert
Understand. These stories always end up the same way. No proof. I challenge these aggressively because they spread misinformation and we end up having to deal with customers asking questions about some post they read about topics like this. We end up telling them they are usually posted by a bunch guys who have never built anything like what they are talking about. Again, my point is these are irresponsible comments and tanks like these don't get built. Of course, you can argue there are real unicorns and there are fake unicorns. In the end, they are all unicorns. Just like these tanks.

Question, on Tenecor aquariums do you include plumbing for the internal overflow?

I think everyone is missing the big picture “tenecor” is trying to paint there.. 3/4” acrylic is easily solvent welded and stronger than the plastic it’s self.. when you get over 1” such as 1-1/4” it’s a different machining method used “bevel” and 2 part acrylic monomers which should be annealed for maximum strength. Your average garage guy don’t have access to that! I do it for a living myself signs “not tanks” and have access to everything but a large oven for the annealing process which greatly maximizes the glue joints.. I’ve built tanks up to 500 gallons but never used acrylic over 1” thick myself..

Just FYI, for Weldon 40, ultimate bond strength is 4000 PSI and is achieved after 24 hours cure time at room temperature and it's 60% stronger than Weldon 3.

If you bake it that almost doubles.. it’s about 80% stronger than straight mix at room temp..

But even at room temperature a two part is going to be a lot stronger than a solvent type that is used by some manufactures for big tanks.
From what is explained on Midwest Custom Aquariums website, they don't believe that 2 part bond is stronger .

Thanks for posting their thoughts. Without seeing some lab work shoing there's no difference in strength I'd stick with Weldon's published data. That being said when I first started working with #40 I tried breaking joints. Properly prepped joints glued with either #3 or #40 had acrylic breaking before the joint broke.

Yeah, it's helping clarify stuff. Based on what I've seen over the years I'd say either is strong enough. There are differences in prep and use so anyone thinking about DIY needs to read the manufacture's instructions and experiment some to work out the assembly and glueing process.
