Man that tank is looking perfect now. Not sure why you want to mske changes.
In that picture, his whole setup and room is.... "Simply Perfection"... to the eye. :)
It's a Giesemann led/t5 fixture an truly a piece of art and craftsmanship.

Giesemann uses the same canopy that pushes MH/T5 and in my opinion MH/T5 the best lighting source in regards to growing all coral species. Also nothing beats the magic of MH shimmer :)

Both canopies are perfection to the eye but I'd rather have the MH/T5 over the LED/T5.

Yeah, I'd be all over the MH/t5 combo if I didn't live in Arizona. I don't want to deal with the heat inside my place in the already scorching summer.

Tru Dat, Tru Dat :)

@Goubli
Just an fyi, A guy noticed your 650 is against your wall on your RC picture's.
You really need to pull it out about 5.5 to 6 inches from the wall.
Last year I had to tighten down the return pipe going back to the display. If I didn't have the six inch gap I would never got to that fitting.

It is off the wall enough. Thanks for suggestion though.

I've got a Reefer 525 so 5' and I've ordered an 8x80w ATI Powermodule (straight T5, no LED)

For me with a dedicated SPS tank, I don't want to run the risk of not having enough even light coverage like I suffer with my current LEDs, so went with a light that matched the tank for length so I know that I've got the whole lot covered.

Would not buy a dimmable fixture. Dimming a T5 will shorten its life.
If this fixture is going to be in your living room and you want to keep your wife happy. Go with the Giesemann the fixture. It's a great looking fixture.

The best advise that I can give is to shoot 2una a PM over here.

I'm basis to Giesemann but his ATI t5 reef speaks for itself.

I have heard a lot of that as well that a ATI out performs a Matrixx any day is what I have read and heard as well ... is this true or are they both at the same level of performance the Matrixx II and ATI SunPower?

The Giesemann Matrixx T5 fixture has no active bulb cooling, thus the bulbs run hotter, shifting spectrum and prematurely shortening both output and bulb life. The ATI's cooling system properly vents and cools the bulb ends, drastically improving par output and bulb life. There is an extensive discussion about it over on RC where the difference in par values between fixtures is quite eye opening.

Hello all,

I think I've narrowed down the lighting choices to either the Aurora t5/LED or the ATI Powermodule t5/LED.

I have a 63" x 22"w x 25" RSM S 650. I am planning to have mostly SPS and some LPS.
Do you think I can get away with a 48" or would I need the 60"?

Also, I've never had t5 or LED as I've been out of hobby close to a decade. I read about needing to "burn in" t5s for 50 hours. Is that 50 hours of straight light? What do people do when they need to replace bulbs? Do I just keep them on for 2 days nonstop?

Thanks for any advice!

Goubli
Seen this awhile back of test results and happen to screen shot it. Difference between 0hr &100hr burn time.

That's really good to know , thank you Water Dog , could you send me the link to that article please?
As I said earlier, I'm bias to Giesemann but when I think full T5, then ATI is the first thing that comes my mind.

If you want the best looking then go Giesemann.
If you want the best all around performance then go ATI.

If your want Hybird, then it's the Aurora or Spectra and all led would be the Futura-S.

The ATI bulbs all seem to hold their par even after the 100 hr burn period
I love ATI bulbs but the KZ Gen ii is the best full daylight bulb than I've ever bought. It has the most awesome color spectrum and worth ever penny.
It is also a par monster. :)
