I think I am just build a new stand. more than anything I want the feeling of doing it right and accomplishment.
I found a guy selling some pipe clamps on FB been looking every day he just posted & I messaged him will see if he replays.

coast wise it not much more to redo the stand with 100% plywood that skin out what I have. I think I will like it more it feels more open and nice I think I will like it better. so that is what I am gonna do. I have some time right now as it my off season so I need a project anyway (not that I dont have things on the 'to do' list)

I will paint the inside white silicone the joints and put a coat of poly.
for the out side not sure if I want to stain or paint it.

i'll see if I can come up with a plan and run it by you guys. thanks for the feedback I really REALLY appetite it.

Or you could cap it/trim it out on the top, not hard to do.
Sometimes I like the step and detail added, and I may crown that underneath, depends on people's taste and style.
These are all finished out that way, looks permanent, can be if you wish, I usually make removable.

You could probably gain the space you need for sump if you did redo it in all ply and w/out 2x frame

Clamps are one thing you can never have too many of, and it's one of few things I might even grab at harbor freight on the cheap.

Painting is always much easier for the average DIY guy, you can always caulk or fill seams, much more forgiving than stain.

harbor freight is 100 miles each way but I might just check them out.

what do you guys think of this hinge jig?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004Q0HI6...olid=1DBETP26E2KZL&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I would of course like the Kreg one but it's a bit more $$

That should work just fine, w/ those you just have to be careful to not go all the way through your door, but it's not difficult, just go slow and check.
They make another kind I used to have that has a spring load that stops you from going through, but I have not seen them in a while, and more expensive I'm sure.
For what you are doing that is all you need

yes bar clamps is what I am after a 4' one so I have room to make other goodies. I am enjoying DIYing stuff around the house. makes me feel manly...haha

their bar clamps aren’t heavy duty, they have a little flex to them. but i e been using them for years. certainly not as rigid as pipe clamps but they are very expensive.

this reminds me that years ago i thought about writing a step by step article on how to make a simple plywood stand. would still be useful, but now i don’t do woodwork. lol.

Did I mention you can never have too many clamps?lol
I love clamps, these aluminum bar clamps you see in pic were from harbor freight like about 10 years ago or so, cheap, but still going strong.
I love these irwin clamps too, but the bars cover about anything.

you should! I will do a build thread so other reefers can learn and you dont have to answer all the question over and over. haha
