Okay sounds good. He also makes saltwater himself but I hesitated because I feel like that is sinful in the reef world.
It’s not too bad if you have a small system and need a little water . But not knowing the parameters, if they switch to cheaper salts to save a dollar that week , or if it’s even at the same salinity as you need .
It’s very expensive .

I think he said 1.75 per gallon. I do know that he is trustworthy enough to only use Red Sea (or tell me if he changed). But I felt like I wanted to learn to really mix the salt properly myself

That’s a great idea .
I have been mixing my own since day 1
I couldn’t imagine lugging buckets of free water that I paid for home ,

I have always made my own too but it was tempting to buy it and not have to mix it

$1.75/gal sounds crazy, but maybe that's what it goes for :)
IO is like $0.20/gal for just the salt.

Out with the old tap water in with RODI. We are on our way to success folks!

The solution to pollution :)

Should be good to go once you get the light and copy some settings. Honestly think that was the biggest problem, though switching to RO certainly knocks source water off the checklist.

New water is in. I think the fish and coral are already happy to be in better water!

You know, it really IS ok to decide that other aspects of your life are higher priorities right now. I'm not telling you to stay or to quit, but if it makes more sense to take a break and then come back to the hobby in the future - and not be as stressed about it - that is fine :)
I know you like softies so I was wondering if you knew anything about Xenia?

I have been reefing for almost a year and after countless kinds of coral I can’t seem to get anything to live. I have had SPS, LPS, softies and everything in between. Nothing I do seems to work. I religiously check my parameters and have them as close as I can to the optimal parameters of whatever I was trying to grow. I have 4 fish and non of them are picking or causing issues, I don’t see any pests. So at this point I think I’m just gonna have to settle for fish only.

may tank is a 29g with a hang on the back filter unfortunately but I change the cartridge often so that I don’t have a bunch of nitrate growing in it.

I have an app that I input all my test info into so that it gives me a graph over a certain period of time.
My parameters are:
Nitrate: 5ppm
Phosphate: 0ppm
Calcium: 380-400 ppm(for softies)
Mag: 1400
Ammonia: 0
Ph: 8.1
Alkalinity: 11-12DKH

if y’all have any suggestions feel free. I honestly am just thinking about selling the tank because it makes me a little sad to think about all the time effort and money I have lost.
If you havent already give up I am confident with my coaching you can quickly turn this around. Doug J 30 years reef keeping. message me any time.

The orange circle is where the blue ring angelfish hides .
I’ve used this picture in another post
That’s really cool. At this point if I can get Xenia to take over it will mean at least something is growing lol
