But I think they only run for a month..

Are you sure?
On FB and the webpage they mentioned 90 days even on this thread 90 days was mentioned.
Maybe someone on the support team can verify this.

Look on the Kickstarter, I think it said only 30 days. On some other forums, that's been the major complaint/letdown for the system

From the kick start
  • Replaceable sensor discs: in the $30-50 range retail. We recommend that the disc be replaced at least every 30 days in order to maintain optimal accuracy.

It was first released to be 90 days and now they took them down to 30
I'm assuming they are cheaper disks and might possibly introduced upgraded ones for 90 days later? who knows.

Will it cause problems if it's next to an vortech pump cause I see it connects to the tank the same way ?

Good question, I would not put one near a vortech, the magnetic field could interfere with the controller.

"Our sensor discs last 90 Days" this was posted on the FB page in early 2014.
This is what is said now, "The device’s disposable disc, which contains ten chemical/fluorescent foils, is accurate for at least 30 days, and will cost $30-$50".
Big difference IMO.
From a estimated $120/$150 cost per year now we talking $360/$600 for the disc.
I think a subscription for $25 per month but you pay a year in advance is something that they need to consider.
Maybe even better.
For example, I started testing with Triton every month, and went a head to do every other month as my numbers didn't change much now I'm planning every three months as the last 6 test weren't that much different either.
I know $30/$50 per month to monitor your investment on your hobby that for many hobbyist concede close to on average $3500 I guess and for many other include me a lot more, what is the cost of $30/$50 a month................ well the same as my life ins, to be covered for 1mil.
Maybe sooner or later their will be a reef life insurance for livestock only in case of a crash you'll be covered for say $40 a month will give you a coverage of $2000.
Note these numbers aren't based on anything just an idea, and it has nothing to do with Mindstream either as that's just a monitor system.

Well, its my birthday in Dec so no better time to get a new toy, so I got the Dec delivery 495$ package, however I do have to admit changing 30-50$ disk every month is a bit of disappointment...
First they say 30-35$ for a disk every 90 Days now its 30-50 each month...

Also they "recommend" changing the disk every 30 days but does that mean the disk can be used longer than 30 days with less accurate results?

I would assume yes but how quickly the accuracy drops will be important.

I think until we see tests results from users we won't really know. I do not think they have released any data for the ALK testing yet.
