Probably won't stop me from getting one. Just waiting and watching for a bit.
Gotta take it out monthly anyway, might as well clean it.
Right mine is shipping as we speak - im a lazy () fill in the swearwords there.... I dont want to be toothbrushing my MS monthly - if thats the case - I'm glad for the 45 day return:). PS I hope its an isolated incident

Well MS finally emailed me today around 2
Told me to go ahead and clean the three light sensors using a “cloth”
I did as explained and both Ca and Mag went up significantly. (Ca used to be around 450, then went down to 390 and now it’s back up to 419). Salifert reads 440
(Mag used to be around 1400, went down to 1090 and after cleaning its back up to 1250) Salifert reads 1400
My other issue now is that my salinity is wayyyy off.
32.8 when two of my Profilux probes are measuring 34 and 34.2 respectively and a manual salinity pen measures 34.
Still waiting from MS aro reply. Last time they told me I needed to give it 3-6 hours after cleaning.
I understand these new tech machines need time to settle but what I don’t understand is that I wasn’t provided with any instructions on how to clean and properly maintain the unit so these things don’t happen.
A little bit frustrated to say the least but I am committed to see how this performs in the long run.

I also hate the subscription model. In fact, thinking of cancelling my electricity and phones. But so far, I do really like my Mindstream instead of trying to test everything independently.

Update on my issues. After being in constant contact with MS a faulty “brush” was noticed on my original disc. First pic shows the disc and around 2 O’clock position note that there is nothing in that cavity. Now on the second pic note that there is a blue “brush” type of component present. That’s the brush that cleans the unit prior to sampling and measurement.
I also noticed that several very tiny starfish were “hiding” under the unit around the bottom part of the MS
See third pic.
So bottom line I think cleaning and inspecting the unit should be done at least on a weekly basis. Just my .02 cents.

And A plus for MS customer service
They have been very responsive to fixing my issues
Thanks MS
Hopefully unit keeps working as it did originally.

Somewhat.
Ca and Mag went back to similar numbers measured with Salifert
Alkalinity went down to under 6! And salinity is under 33.
So aside from those two values all is well. I am hoping they start to go back up towards normal within the next 12 hours.
I still emailed MS regarding these results.
Haven’t heard from them

Not at all sure why people are comparing to 'salifert' or'xxxxxx;' - if the results seem 'in line' there is no reason imo

I am not comparing but in order to know if my MS values are CORRECT I need to have some other value readily available.
For example my MS is measuring 32.8 Salinity.
I have triple checked that value with three other salinity probes and those values differ from MS by a lot!
MS 32.8
Others 35

So that’s why I am “comparing” with other tests.

Right - but how do you know that 'salifert' is the right one?

Sorry I thought you were talking about using salifert to compare the rest.

I don’t know but I also have ICP testing done last week to compare. I seriously doubt that my alkalinity is 5.60 at this point without a massive crash

The Alkalinity test is not done by ICP - its just done for convenience - no more or less accurate than a good hobby grade test (in all likelihood).
