Does anyone have a cost savings hack for a Reefmat 1200? They are $34.00 a roll and I feel like there is a less expensive alternative - another brand? Buying bulk fleece?

So I assume if one was to order from precision…do you need this reducer or will the roll fit onto redsea directly?
You need the reducer. Seems Precision only manufactures the rolls using 2” tubes. So the reducer is needed to go down to the 1.5” size used by RedSea.

I’ll take pictures as soon as I get it.

Steven from Precision Converting provides a contact that makes them. I have not received it yet so I can’t describe the quality or material or how it fits. As soon as I get it I’ll post here on this thread with pics.

Thanks Steven reached out to me. I’m going to give this a try as well. Can’t beat the price!

Just reorder directly thru Steve(from precon) yesterday too. 10 rolls at $10 bucks each and $20 for shipping. Is a lot cheaper than the red sea oem (would of just gotten 4 roll with redsea).

Steve is quick and responsive and pleasure to work with!

Got my 2" -> 1.5" adapter from 'mackdave' on here 6 months back.

I got my order in today from Precision Converting.

Here’s the roll next to a RedSea Fleece-roll for the 1200. Precision is on the left.

Top down. You can see a few comparisons:
  • protective wrapping
  • Tube diameter difference
  • Roll density

Side by side but with the Precision Converting unwrapped:

I ordered the 50 micron:

Here’s a video where I’m sharing my initial reaction:

A couple of provisos to the video— my concerns were quickly addressed by Steven. He noted to me that the 50 micron material is thinner and more fragile than 20 micron (which is closer to the weight of the RedSea Fleece-roll). And that the 50 micron seems to be the most ordered and no issues have arisen with its use.

And I actually feel this 50 micron version might work better in my system. Albeit, I have not installed this yet. My current roll will be used up in a couple of days so I’ll install it then and journal here.

I got the Precision Converting 2”-1.5” tube adaptor from Mr. Mack. Simple pair of 3D printed parts

IMG_7417.jpeg

Fits into either end of the Precon Fleece roll to bring the inner tube diameter down to RedSea ReefMat size.

Fits well. Seems like it’ll do what it needs to do…

I’ll be replacing my roll today or tomorrow.

Install seems ok:

It’s pulling correctly and not tearing…

Water is passing nicely…My poor spooling alignment is my fault…

Get it higher up above water level in sump - I have mine on an eggcrate platform, have a 680L system with about 10,000lph flow through and a roll lasts me just over 3 1/2 months!!!
