I think they’re neat looking fish but not for the price. If they were in the $200 range I’d consider it. Now however, probably too late to add to my current tank. I’d hate to have him get bullied to death. I have a blue, yellow, purple, Naso, powder blue, desdarjini and sohal. All in a 300 gallon, and for the most part, they live in harmony. The Sohal chases my powder from time to time, but nothing major. I think I’m at my tang limit.

@TopShelfAquatics do you think the same will eventually happen with the Mauritius Polyzona Tang?

Only if the polyzona is found in more collection-friendly places. I think it’s unique to Mauritius.

Not really sudden though. Gem prices have been coming down for a couple of years. Recently saw some for $299.

At the higher prices everyone was handling these guys with kid gloves...... I find my gem to be very hardy......Even survived a shipping delay, and left on a neighbor’s porch instead of coming to my house, on a very cold day.

No quarantine, and months later it is active and eats like a champ.

I do love a good yellow tang too though.......

Pure supply and demand, it does not cost hundreds each to ship these. I envision that happening with coral frags in the coming few years as well. Everyone and their brother is getting into selling frags seeing what things are going for and with equipment advances it is getting easier and easier to propagate. These high prices on most frags will be looked at as a blip down the road and many growers will be no longer, my opinion of course.

I have one I am trying to sell for $600 if anyone in Houston is interested. I bought it from LA for $800 but my purple and yellow tang were very aggressive towards him so I had to move him back to the QT rank.

Availability, lower demand and popularity of the new gem known as Barcode gem Tang has driven prices down

I picked up two Gem Tangs on black friday..$200 each....decent size also... about 3.5 to 4 inches. The lfs had originally told me $125 ...but he couldnt get as many as he thought and the shipping was more expensive. However for that price i had to get 2.

Not to knock you ad but this and other tang have HLLE and signs of vitamin deficiency. You may want to up the diet, add vitamins and garlic and increase food variety.

I just saw them on my importers list for 65 and thought it was a typo at first! Gone are the days of buying them at 400-500 whole sale and flipping them for 700-800.
