Agreed.
My nutrients were sky high and no gha for me either.
As Tim said, check for rust on pumps, impellers and those types of things.
How's your RO situation Amanda?

I make my own RO if that's what you are asking.

Total newbie on the subject but having so much gha in the tank could it be giving a false nutrient reading and if she add chaeto could it bring the nutrients to zero leading to new problems?
I don't know what the reason is, but I'm inclined to think that it's not the nutrients that are creating the GHA, all of that with my little experience with my tank that has always had high nutrients. Right now I'm at 48 No3 and 1.6 Po4 with no GHA
My understanding was that the algae and corals would absorb all the nutrients, giving you a false reading of low to no nutrients. In her case, she is still reading high nutrients. So yes, the test result is probably inaccurate, but her nutrient levels may be much higher than she's reading. That's my understanding at least...

So that means that the reading can be wrong for both sides, that is, it can be more or less nutrients than what you read?

More. Algae can hide/mask nutrients, they won't make it read higher though.

I don't think you can have less nutrients that what your test result says, unless if it's a testing error. Only more

I don't know man. This is making my brain hurt lol

have not dealt with the GHA, but I am a recovering from a dino infestation, will tell you my whole sump turned into an algae scrubber, nutrients hit double zeros and here come the dinos. Slow progress with out chemical help. I did do research on the dino-x, its an algaecide. Not recommending it, just that it seems to work great on all types of algae, the big message with users is don't overdose.
Did you end up using the dino-x?

Should I put the pump at the top of the glass or medium range? What are the possibilities it turns on and shocks everythinhg? Lol overthinker here. Also I'm going to start it at 20% any objections to that?

Keep your hand in the tank. If you feel a tingle, unplug the pump.

It depends what you want it to achieve. More surface agitation, or more flow through the rocks?

Considering opening a coffee shop... I was thinking of naming it "Flick the bean". Too much? May draw a large female following. I'm asking for a friend obviously. :smiling-face-with-halo::smiling-face-with-sunglasses:
We've got Bikini Beans here in AZ. And yes, they walk around in their bikinis.

5 inch + or - from the water line is my go to start, 20% is perfect

I keep mine about 2"-3" below the surface. Living in the desert I like a lot of surface agitation. It's a lot cheaper to cool the tank that way than run a chiller.
