The 300 will be a year running in Aug 2024 with all the lace rock out of the tank and the new marco/caribsea rock structures I built. Zoa's are growing and spreading...Waiting on Ecotech dosing station to get here so I can dose ALK and Tropic Marin A- and K+...The Red Sea ato system works great..got 10 gallon ato container. Averaging .41 to 1.10 gallons a day..Can see that when we are home and people are over the patio door gets opened alot and then the water replacement goes up...

Glad to know that many people are starting to realize marketing is the main reason why people pay more for salt.

I get the need to have salt mix closer to our tank parameters, and you doing 50% with IO (BTW orange is reef crystals (RC), instant ocean is IO hehe) will shoot your alkalinity up, just be aware.

But if you set up an AWC and use IO then who cares what the salt mixes to?

Another thing that I never got on board with was the need to have your salt mix up clean. Another marketing scheme sold to us primarily by BRS. If that's a priority for you, just know that it stemmed from marketing and peer pressure.

Good choice on switching to IO. I've been using it for 5 years and have zero issues with any of it.

This is true. It also got me thinking about dosing trace elements. I use all for reef to maintain parameters and as I slowly migrate to AWC it gave me pause to assess if I'm wasting money and switch back to 2 part.

Regarding mixing clear. I do see some part of the argument though as it relates to precipitation and cleaning maintenance. Then again I guess that can be scheduled routine provided setup allows it.

Hope your day is well.

Thank guys for your reply (sister and aree).. I really do not care about how clean it mixes as back in the 90's, I remember using TM in a box, like a box of cereal, hahah, and the buckets were dark bottom after a while...
During the last year the 300 has gone through alot of changes and so have I. I found out that as you guys said, marketing plays on our need for a "thing" to fix our problems and they market all this stuff to keep us chasing the next "new thing".
Do not get me wrong, yes there are things out there that need improving and do work better than the older models, but (my opinion here) alot of it is marketed to us to keep us spending..
Lucky for me I can make alot of the stuff out there and saved me $$$, but in the end they just did not work like others say or needed so much time to clean every month or so or change out, almost became a full time job... "JOB" is not what I do this for ...
So as with the salt change brands, the 300 sump is back to basics with some modifications...added Red Sea ATO system, ecotech versa dosing bar for KALK, and Tropic Marin A- and K+,(it is somewhere in a ups truck right now) a Reef Octopus 300 int skimmer.
Soon will be setting up GHL system I got 2 year back from a fellow reefer who moved. also have a new ozone sysstem and Tunze skimmer for it to set up..
Now that I took out all the unnecessary stuff in the sump I have room.
Coming back into the hobby from the 90's, made me think that all this new stuff was needed when it was just a ploy to get $$$...
I am excited to move on a don't look back form the detour of all the gimmicks and of course share that experience with those so they do not do the same thing.
I Thank my club members in Az and all those who chat with me on here.
I will be watching the alk as I do the water swap, I am not doing all 150 at once but over time like a few days or so...

Thanks for the infor sisterlimonpot and everyone else....Yes using IO purple/white bucket. from what I found IO purple mixes to CA 400, AlK 11 and MG 1350 which is close to my numbers. Tryin to stay in the area of CA 400-450, ALK 8-9 and MG 1300 -1350.. I picked the salt based on what I read and also because of easy of availability and since it is close to my numbers other salt was more $ and numbers were farther away from my goal numbers...
Only doing 40 gallons at a time swap out so that numbers do not change too much. The 300 is mostly her zoa's, a few lps and 2 sps at this time..I am not rushing into sps and having them die since we only want a few of top choice ones..(5 to 10).
