I got the the melanarus wrasse from a LFS 7 days ago. On the second day I had him (5 days ago) I noticed these markings on him. He had plenty of energy, eats fine and moves about the tank all day with plenty of vigor. He's had this for at least 5 days without showing signs of slowing down. You can see in the picture, it looks like it's swollen and his scales are slightly raised. He's still an aggressive eater and moves about the tank all day.

I've had the flasher wrasse for about 6-8 months. He's one of the most active members in the tank flashing and jetting around like he's always got some where to be. Yesterday I noticed he was not acting himself because he had slowed down a bit. Still eating, still moving about but definitely with less tenacity as usually. Upon inspecting him, I noticed the mark on his abdomen. Can any help me identify what's going on here? Is it related and what should I be doing about it?

The flasher has slowed down even more today. He's stopped eating, even meaty food which he loves. He looks to be breathing hard. Here's what the marking looks like today (Sunday).

Looks like an injury which should heal on its own. I doubt a nip . However keep an eye on it for ant development of redness or sore which would then require treatment. Often these fish hide and dwell within rock structures which can contribute to this.
Assure its provided a sand bed of at least 3" for hiding and self security

I just ordered. Thank you.
Don’t mix focus and food unless you measure it correctly. The dose is 1% metro by total weight of the food. Less than that and it doesn’t work, and too much metro is bitter and the fish won’t eat it. You’ll need an accurate gram scale.
Metronidazole is primarily used against internal protozoans and I just don’t see that being the case here.

Injury/illness progression. Heres about 4 days after we first noticed this injury. He's slowing down but I still can't catch him. Things are looking way worse. Can anyone give me some more feedback on what you think is going on and what I should do?

PS he hasn't eaten in 4 days. The melanarus wrasse's injury is almost fully healed with a bit of scarring.

That's tough to say with any certainty - I think I can see a sort of "skin tag" hanging off - to me, that could indicate that the problem is a physical injury.

What medication have you used so far?
