So bought this light used with a whole aquarium set up that frankly has been a terrible experience. It is one of two lights that worked fine for 3 weeks and then poof, off, no lights whatsoever, completely dark around the buttons. Happened right in front of me as I gazed into my wonderful new seascape. Wondering if you could all help me trouble shoot as a last ditch effort before I send it in.

I have switched power cords (and the box thingy) with the light that works and the working light works with both power supply cords.
I plugged the light in by USB into the computer and a white light around the buttons comes on and according to the manual that means there is no power from the power source.

Per Ecotech's costumer service I'm going to open it up and look for anything obvious and thought I would open both lights to compare. And clean the fan I suppose.

Anything else obvious I should look for? While they said to send it in it sounds like if there is a part needed I'm S.O.L. due to their age.

Beginner nightmare with this tank but I soldier on. Thanks.

if there is no lights around the buttons, first thing is to check the fuse. An unlikely problem in your case unless you had a lightning or a similar power surge event. Obviously, check to make sure the power cable is plugged in all the way also.
I repair these daily and if it's not the fuse, the problem is in nearly 100% of all such cases with the power circuit on the main board. You can send it to me and it will likely be repaired.
Ecotech does not repair or service G3 anymore. They will take it in, tell you they don't have parts and offer a 10% discount on a new light.
