Not an eel, but an Engineer Goby and I have 2 of them. Affectionately named "Achmed" and "Abdul", but collectively referred to as "Hamas" due to all of their tunnels. The Dainty Dictator tells me that the naming schema is offensive, but I'm not convinced. For note, that is Abdul in the picture.

I’ve been thinking of getting one of these for turning over my sand bed. Do they do a good job of it or is something else better? It would be in my FOWLR so not worried about coral getting covered.

They are fantastic for the job. Careful what you wish for, though. Especially if you have fines in your substrate. It took about 6 or 7 months for the cloudiness to go away. They dig CONSTANTLY. Also, they get BIG, and fast. Achmed is about 13" already and still growing. Abdul is about 11".

Usually, people only see their heads poking out to grab food. Mine, however, are active swimmers and are out all of the time. Really cool critters. They do best in groups due to their social bonds, so I reccomend a minimum of 2. That unfortunately translates to a large tank.

Wow, didn’t realize they got that big.

My engineer goby killed many of my sand dwelling corals (plates, meats, bubble) because he insisted on burying them non-stop, no matter where I tried to move them.
