What fish are on your list?So upon further review and investigation and measuring the 150g is not going to be doable. We are switching gears and going with a 120g. Main issue was basement and proper support options. 60 inches and we ran into issues with the windows and hvac being in the way. 48 is much more doable monetarily as well. I am mocking up placement upstairs after work today and then we will know for sure by this weekend. Will still be able to get 99% of the fish I want so not mad.
I wanted a Huma Picasso but I think he is out (unless I decide I cant live without it and just flip him to the 180g when he gets too big) so a Bursa Trigger instead (but probably not). What fish are on your list?
Hawkfish added to the list of potentials.Red coris wrasse, lunar wrasse (will eat eye balls), flame hawk?
Bursa is the smallest of the rhinecanthus family. With some bewteen 10-12" i dont see much issue in a 120g until they hit 8"
Most butterflies have yellow in them. Except the Pakistan which is harder to get healthy and acclimated to tank life. It took me 8 tries to get one to live. One of my favorite fish now. I can give you a list of hardy butterflies in a little bit when I have timeI wanted a Huma Picasso but I think he is out (unless I decide I cant live without it and just flip him to the 180g when he gets too big) so a Bursa Trigger instead (but probably not).
Any dwarf angel x1 NOT YELLOW
Any Butterfly x 2-3 NOT YELLOW will need to make sure they get along with each other. NO CBB or hard to acclimate species either.
Hogfish x 1 : Coral, Axilspot or yellow candy
Wrasse x 2-3 : Red coris, pinkface, rainbow, blunthead, or hardwicke (sorry/not sorry for not using scientific names)
Most of these "should" be ok in a 120g, except the Picasso.
The not yellow preference is Mike's. He also wants black sand and "purple" rock. He is never here to look at things so those "preferences" are fudgeable. I just picked out fish that I thought were pretty and that I "couldn't" keep in the 180g as it sits right now. I would be able to move the Picasso over since they appear to really only be a threat to inverts and small fish. The things that wouldn't be able to move over is anything that would eat corals.
Any other recommendations/suggestions?
We are in no rush. Have to do some electrical work and bracing. Slow going on this one. Looking at wet date of 4/20/25 to match the wet date of the 180g. That way I can remember their birthdays easier. will hopefully get things ordered and delivered before snow falls though. Most butterflies have yellow in them. Ouch. Sorry. If it makes you feel any better, I got tagged on the top of my right foot by a wasp the other day. My misery will keep you company...Bees are spicy today. Got me through my glove. My reactions are getting progressively more intense and faster. Not a good sign. Just need to be more careful. Pic was after maybe 5 mins I can't bend my finger now. 15 mins later.
Mock up of tank so I "can get used to how much space it will take up" and "understand how claustrophobic it will make the living room feel". (Those are air quotes btw.) It will be slightly taller and about a foot over to the right. I think I will be more bothered that it can't be centered on the wall then anything else. And no can't move the recliner that's the dogs domain always has been always will be.
I am going to try for as close to the right as I can. There is a vent at the floor there so I would need to give enough room for the air (cold/hot) to come out. I could block it off but I'd prefer not to if possible.Make it a peninsula with a cabinet hiding the plumbing on the left. That could visually center it a little more. Or can it go all the way right, against the wall?
I am hesitant to join them together. Since I run moonshiners on the reef joining them together would increase the water volume and in that the cost of the supplements. With this being a fowlr I'm not sure that would make sense. Dosing more just due to the volume not more corals. Also having to tie them together in one sump would take some re routing of plumbing and moving the mixing station. Third the new fish in the fowlr could bring in nasties that would contaminate the 180g and I would prefer not to risk that.Is it going to be hooked into the other sump in the basement?
I know it's not an option but dang a nice long tank taking up most of that wall would be awesome.
