A cheap UV sterilizer will clear it up in a day or two. I always keep a green killing machine on hand as a just in case tool.

One has other options

I'm in a small town

And have both a Petco and PetSmart to choose from

I can use Instacart to pay someone to go to either one and buy a bucket of salt and bring it to me. Or frozen fish food and coral food

I don't like going into those stores myself. Makes me depressed and anxious

They can also go to WalMart and get 10-20 gallons of distilled water for me, in an emergency

That plankton bloom is beautiful! You should get a screen and filter it out for resale to the LFS or other local reefers. It can be used to feed corals, clams and other filtering organisms.

Has anyone mentioned (I didn't see it) the possibility of bacterial infection? Filter media which is not properly maintained will become a bacterial breeding ground.

besides uv sterilizer, what would work?

Nothing really except adding a bunch of things that eat it or just waiting to see what happens. Btw the uv sterilizer would only need to be in the tank while the bloom is occuring.

Is this tank at or near a window?
Are you using RODI water or tap water from faucet?
