There was a vendor here, Aloha Corals I believe, that used to collect zoas/palys for resale. He said he never collected in water that was more than 5' deep.

A.Grandis my appologies I must have jumped the gun. Your tank I really nice, I personally like softies over sps, and I know I'm going to hear from some people but I really don't care its just what I like. I don't think I've seen so many zoathids clustered together like that, to me that's a great tank thank you for sharing. Now I can put my foot in my mouth.
No worries... I'm glad you liked my tank!
Aloha,
Grandis.

@A. grandis Those are absolutely amazing. Totally ready to talk about light if your ready.

BTW I think you can pretty much DESTROY this thread.https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/whos-got-the-biggest-zoa-colony.274562/ :D

Im actually more curious about the Hawaiian coral rules, that might be another thread though.;)
No, I prefer to stay away from those threads.. Thanks!

Well, basically here in Hawaii you can't collect live rocks and hard corals.
You can get zoanthids and soft corals from the rocks but they need to be scraped off from the rocks.
There are two types of permits: recreational and commercial. My permit is recreational.
I've had commecial and scientific permits in the past, and was able to collect live rocks and hard corals for a year, but that was a while ago...
There is no permit that allow importation of any marine invertebrate to the Hawaiian islands for the home aquarium. There are no corals or zoanthids coming from any place to be in private homes.
The Waikiki Aquaium is the only place that holds such scientific permit.
All my zoanthids are collected legally from here with my recreational permit.
All my rocks are made with legally collected dry coral skeletons and cement.

The only way to see lots of corals is to go to the Waikiki Aquarium and the Maui Aquarium...
Or when I go to the mainland for MACNA or such... Then I go really, really crazy!! :D

Pleas go ahead and bring back the subject of this thread...
Hopefully more people will get here to talk about their opinions.
I'll try to stay quiet this time. I guess you all know what I think anyway...
Thanks!

Gradis.

Yes, I don't think he does zoas anymore.
That type of business here doesn't give much profit anyway.
Too much work for little money... LOL!
You guys are lucky to have those colorful zoanthids and specially those nice corals in the LFS!

What is your point?
That is actually what I've posted after talking to Joe, that day.
Joe said that the new farm would have LEDs. He said the current farm, when I called them, didn't.
That was on October 24th 2016.
The pic you just posted is from my post #182, page 10.
Do you think Joe was lying?

I don't think he lied to me because I've asked him to come to the thread and participate.
I told him I was going to publish the info, just like I told Diane at Live Aquaria.
I am not lying too for the same reason. They could come here and tell you guys I was lying.
Anyone can call them and ask the questions.
I don't get it. What is your point bringing this up?

That pdf was probably done recently? I have no idea.

Perhaps the pdf was just released? It has the date on it's address. I'm not sure if the date above is actually the released date...
I really think they should go with T5s and MHs for the new system, but I think they just can't because of electricity issues... They HAVE to save electricity for the new systems and therefore going with the LEDs over the new system.
And the LED company came to "help" them. Nothing wrong. In exchange they get their rights to publish the pdf promoting both businesses.
Take a look on Page 2 of the pdf. They actually say something that was probably referring to the new coral farm:

"Over the years, World Wide Corals has grown. In
addition to their original retail space WWC has
expanded to include several large aquaculture systems."

Enjoy your LEDs my friend.
I'm enjoying my wonderful T5s without any troubles...
Be happy!
Cheers!
Grandis.

He must be mistaken I guess. Your video was 7 months old BTW. Pdf was recently published. Here is another very informative article from January that shows some pictures of t5 vs led growth

http://ecotechmarine.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Ecotech_CoralLab_WP1.pdf
LOL!
Those T5s and the MHs are so high above their systems. Are you kidding me?
They can ramp up the intensity of those LEDs and get to the right sweet spot to achieve results. We all know that!
They did a wonderful job with the pictures and defending their product though.
I'm sorry, but I'm not convinced yet.
BUT... thanks very much for the try.

Go read and watch other videos in this thread... perhaps everyone has a different opinion and that will be their final word?
It's hard to just swallow those labs, set up to prove what they want to sell.
Very interesting... Just my opinion. Don't take it as you shouldn't try their fixture out.
Thanks very much. That enriches the thread anyways...

I shouldn't come here anymore.
You guys...

Grandis.

Those coral lab tests are bogus. To get the kind of spread they write about the radions have to be like 3-4ft high above the tank. Who is going to do that in the real world?
