Update Day 10

Mg was down to 1800ppm after a 33% water change. I dosed 80ml of Mg tonight. I'll dose again tomorrow and should be back up to 2000ppm.

I usually dosed my new water to avoid a big drop.

Yeah it really depends on how large of a water change you do. it sucks to get set back days if it dips below 1800ppm. I figured that out the hard way.

I'm going to manually remove some Bry tomorrow and put it in a cup of 100% Tech m. Then record the time it takes to die. It should dissolve correct?

It should but I'm not sure what data you'll get from that. maybe if you dried off the algae and weighed it. then record the amount of water and Tech m you use.

It was pointed out to me by my wife that I should have tried that tonight. I put everything I pulled tonight in a cup (about 5oz of water and Bry) with 10ml of H2O2. I should have cut it in half and compared it to a Mg solution.

I took some samples of Bry and GHA. The Bryopsis looks like it's dying and this is prior to putting it in pure solution. It's weak and stringy and thin. The GHA looks pretty healthy. Dropped both into pure Mg solution. See what it looks like in the AM.

I have a few patches of cyano but they are going away. Overall, the algae problem has got better. I have some bubble algae still.

The only issue is that if the bryopsis dies in pure solution, how practical wouldn't that be for a cure?

I'm going to do 50/50 with tank water next, then continue to reduce the concentration. Just curious what the concentration needs to be and for how long.

Mg up to 1815 today. Definitely putting a dent in bryopsis. I keep taking pics of the same spot to compare. This is only a 29 biocube so I guess it is having a quick effect. My salinity has crept up to 1.027. Is it better to bring it down now by removing saltwater and adding fresh RO/DI or am I better off doing a water change with salt water with lower magnesium?

I also have this red/burgundy stringy algae that has been in this tank for a long time. Kind of like dragons breath but thinner. It doesn't seem to bother the corals or get crazy out of control, so I think I will not go crazy trying to eradicating this one. Here it is, anyone know what it is?

I'd replace some of the tank water with fresh, then test the Mag again and dose if necessary.

Ditto.

If you wanted to make new salt at lower salinity I would recommend dosing it to match Mg before adding it to the tank.

Update - day 15

Log updated
Mg is 1905ppm
salinity is 1.026
No ill effects to tank
Bry still going strong tho :(

I'm thinking about dosing H2O2 for the next 2 weeks. Any thoughts on that? Also in 2 weeks adding 2 lettuce nudibranchs to assist in manual removal. It's not that I don't believe in the Tech M treatment. I would like to see if known eliminators combined will be more effective. So let's talk about that for a bit.
