Can’t go wrong with a good old kessil fuge light but that’s expensive so I’d go with a Tunze fuge light. They make multiple sizes and are strips so you can do multiple or just 1 depending on the size of your tank. Quick tip you want to have your fuge light on at night and off during day to give even oxygen to the chaeto or such
Thanks, So I went with the AI prime 16HD. The guy at the shop said it was kinda overkill for a refugium. We will see. I just need the best possible results, and my Red Ogo should be here before the weekend!

Im still learning my way around as well...... But maybe someone can answer me this (In accordance to him saying his tank is starting to brown) I started a tank about 6 months ago. Went through the brown ( Which Im assuming means diatoms) but then got ich. Everything (fish) is dead now. So I put my rock in a brute trashcan with heater, fresh salt water and powerhead. Not going to even set up until after full 88 day. Will I have to go through the browning stage again after starting from ground 0? I Plan on reef only after new Waterbox shows up.
That sounds so scary. I hope to prevent that from happening to me. That's why I am trying to move slow and effective. Since the tank is browning, I will drastically reduce my Display Light and keep the refugium light on. I hope that helps. Not sure, but I will find out! Why do you say 88 days? Is that a method or a certain time? I really want to get this right. Thannks!

Am I supposed to ask my tank questions here? Or do I start a new thread somewhere else to ask questions?

ok, SO I set this tank up in late December. I decided to go bare bottom so I don't have as much cleaning to do. My previous tanks had sand and I cleaned it often, I won't miss it!

Anyways I still purchased a bag of Carib sea Arag-Alive Hawaiin Black Sand. I dumped the entire bag into the third section of the sump(where my Skimmer will go). At the time I was assuming that it would help with the cycle. Now I'm thinking I have to clean it up and dump it. I don't think I cant put the Skimmer on it. My second section of the fuge is for my algae barn Red Ogo & cubes.

I have no problem with cleaning the sand out now if that's what needs to be done. I just want to be sure I'm doing the right thing. My Octopus skimmer should arrive soon. All the skimmers I've seen have never been on a bed of sand. If that's cool, I'd put the skimmer on the sand. If that's not cool, I have some cleaning to do.

thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks all!
