There's a guy on R2R that sells a nice kit for 40B to turn into a nice sump. I think if you want refugium you'll need to go with 50g (petco tank).

I would recommend going larger on your sump. 40br won't give you much room for equipment and overflow capacity from the tank.

I have an 80g deep blue 48x24x24 and wouldn't want to go any smaller.

If it's 24 in wide it won't fit in the stand. The stand is only 20 X 68?

I was planning a second sump for my refuium. I'm thinking a 15 g.

is there an affordable skimmer that people recommend? i love my coral box d500 but the biggest isn't big enough i dont believe.

A 40 breeder works fine with my 180.I admit mine is not the prettiest but with more finesse it can be better. I use a red sea c skim 1800 protein skimmer. Also as long as your return outlets are not to deep when you set them your drain back to sump at shut down will be minimal. I set mine so there is only a few gallons draining back to the sump at shut down
