Starting pic entry here.

Im kind of testing myself with this one. This went into my frag tank which is a lot younger and going through equipment changes still. Lighting is about to be upgraded in the next month or so. Currently running T5s and AI blades (about 230 PAR where these are) and moving to a Reefbrite 250w halide with quanta helix bars. Tank is running All for Reef and Bacto Balance. Been adding some left over KZ stuff (FW stop, coral booster, etc) but I’m about out of it and hadn’t planned to get more. For whatever reason this tank keeps wanting to normalize around being a ULNS so I’m dosing ammonium bicarbonate irregularly and not doing anything consistent for phosphate. I bought some TM phos-feed to try out for that.

I’ll get some testing numbers from the tank and edit this post later.

I had a nightmare hair-algae forest for several weeks, with high phosphate (0.89) and 0.00 nitrate

Awesome man, thanks for all the info ! I started carb dosing about 2 weeks ago maybe 3 anyhow I had to hit the breaks having bit of a cyano problem but man everything looked soooooo good for about a week things were bangin, today is first day knock on wood that I think my cyano might kinda be starting to fade back some and PE was all crazy again.

When it gets out of whack in this tank, I get cyano. The tank is only about a year old. When I got it up and running I used a bunch of media that had come from my display and had been cooking for a while. I also added in some TBS live rock rubble.

Initially I had a massive hair algae bloom. I let it grow for about 2 weeks until it was about an inch thick on all the rocks and then went in and pulled it all scrubbing things off with my trusty battle brushes. After that, the algae has largely disappeared and all I have is the cyano situation.

I've been hand dosing the ammonium and I'm going to get it on a doser here soon (like this week.) And then I'm going to _very slowly_ introduce the phos-feed and see if I can tell a difference.

Yeah you can see cyano in there too at the edge of the racks. I think its due to the ULNS situation.

I carbon dose in both of my tanks. Bacto Balance in this one, and elimi-NP in the display (Elimi-NP doesn't have the traces in it and I'm moonshining that tank.)

I've tried turning back the bacto-balance but it doesn't seem to change anything. And I typically let my socks hang out in the sump until they just don't flow anymore trying to give that stuff a chance to break down and build out a nutrient profile... no dice.

It's all good. Stuff grows in here. I'm just letting it do its thing and try to make some small changes real slow. I'm excited to get this tank dialed in, and being in the contest will push me to give it more attention.
