Lovely!Here’s my little set up
It's not algea on the wave makers is gross stuff like pieces of food that get stuck in them.Citric Acid won't necessarily work for the algae. I'd unplug it, pull it out of the tank give it a quick splash of hydrogen peroxide and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and THEN a good 30-60 minute soak in citric acid (while running) to remove scale and such.
I usually do about a half strength citric acid mix and run it for an hour or 4 when I soak mine.
I have lots of hermits and cerith snails but I can't tell that they are eating it.Hermits, Turbo Snails, Cerith Snails, Hector's or Court Jester Goby, Sailfin Tangs will just to name a few. Now, with that said, if parameters are out of line it'll keep growing.
Flux RX or Reef Flux can temporarily eliminate it sometimes, but with mine it did nothing until the iron was depleted.
I believe Parker tried Flux RX for his GHA and it didn't do anything either.
As Kevin mentioned, sometimes dosing Hydrogen Peroxide works. I did that for a while and everything seemed good. I forget why I stopped...
Love the colors on that one!Good morning everyone
It's incredible that it was about to die months ago, I've wanted to have rainbow ones that are beautiful, but how true is it that all acans end up being orange over time?Love the colors on that one!
I have never heard that about acans but as you know I haven't been at this hobby very long. LOLIt's incredible that it was about to die months ago, I've wanted to have rainbow ones that are beautiful, but how true is it that all acans end up being orange over time?
Welcome Justin to the Smorgasbord! Here’s my little set up
Good morning Jill, how old is your tank? What other algae has shown up since you started your tank? Not knowing the age of your tank and just looking at the picture I would say diatoms, self limiting and will go away even if you don’t do anything as soon as the silicates they feed on are depleted. If you don’t like the look, copepods will eat them and speed up the process.can any of you kind people please give me some thoughts on this algae im starting to get? im wondering if its from not having enough flow in this area...idk...it'sjust in this one spot
You changed your avatar!Lol that is fairly odd
Numbers look good Amanda.Tested my water this morning here are the readings. I haven't done a water change in two weeks but plan on doing one this between today and Saturday and will test again after that. I did not add more Magnesium this morning since I plan on doing the water change. I would have done one this past weekend but just wanted not able to after I fell.
Phosphate .25
Kh 9.3
Magnesium 1230
Calcium 460
Nitrate 25
Ph 7.7
It is mostly food and such I hadn't thought to turn them off when feeding that's a good idea. I turn off the sump return and protein skimmer during feeding so I can easily add that as well.Numbers look good Amanda.
Phos a tad high, ph a little low but nothing to stress over
If it's just food and stuff in there can you turn them off while feeding?
I try and stick with saltwater specific products just to be safe.Does anyone know if I could use a buffer to raise ph that is meant for cichlids in my tank? I am thinking no but I hate to throw away an almost full bottle if I can use it.
Open the window in that room, get some fresh air in there.Does anyone know if I could use a buffer to raise ph that is meant for cichlids in my tank? I am thinking no but I hate to throw away an almost full bottle if I can use it.
We run the ac and the tanks in the living room so opening a window isn't an option. But that's very interesting that opening a widow can do that.Open the window in that room, get some fresh air in there.
That'll help tremendously as well.
My wife keeps the door shut, window shut in my little "fishroom ".
When I get home I immediately open the window and door and my ph goes from 7.92 to 8.1 in about 15 minutes.
