Bonus entry: “What has been your most rewarding accomplishment as a coral grower?”

Simply seeing the magnificent “garden” I’ve created, especially under the moonlight setting. :star-struck:

Bonus entry: What is your favorite coral species to grow and why?

ZOAS - I am addicted to them. I absolutely love the variety of colors, and how you can make a garden of different varieties. So much fun!

Bonus entry: How long have you been growing corals?

I grew them a couple of years, but just got back into the hobby after a break, so 4 months this time.

Bonus entry: What has been the best lighting setup you've used for growing corals? Why do you like this one?

Since LEDs, a biocube stock light supplemented with an actinic bar on my nano. On my 210 gallon and my baby tank (5 gallons) I’m running SMATFARMs. Are they fancy? No. But they have a great shimmer, lots of spectrum, and enough PAR to cook my sand bed if I wanted. I don’t. lol

Bonus: How do you handle coral fragging in your tank? Are you a frequent fragger? Occasional fragger? Or only when you have to prune?

Usually I handle it because I have to. Moving GSPs from one back wall to another, moving mushrooms that are encroaching, etc. My fragging technique usually involves gluing myself to a towel, the counter, or the coral. With much cussing.

Bonus entry: What is your approach to dosing calcium and alkalinity? Do you dose any other elements?

I dose a 2 part as well as magnesium using a red sea doser, which I love.

DAILY QUESTION: Do you feed your coral? If so, what are your favorite coral food and feeding techniques? If not, why not?
I like live phytoplankton and preserved bottles of phyto and Oyster feast. Dump in at night. For LPS, I target feed when they are looking for something to eat, tentacles out.

DAILY QUESTION: How important is flow in coral growth? What have you found to be the best way to get the right flow for keeping corals healthy and thriving?
Having enough random flow in the tank is what keeps the coral fed and cleaned and breathing. If it starves or gets covered in funk or cant breath it will not grow as fast as it can die. Keeping the powerheads and flow pumps clean and running is a start.

DAILY QUESTION: What has been the biggest setback you've experienced in growing corals? How did you bounce back?
AEFW. I caved in and didn't look at the tank much for many years while I wondered if I would ever restart it again. I'm still not back but making slow steps, much slower as I am getting old and tired vs when the coral grew easily, but what are the other options?

Extremely. I use mp40/10 combo and adjust until corals are swaying but not being whipped around
