Following along, this is gonna be a great build! Hope the pencil wrasse thrives for you, it’ll be awesome when it colors up. You said you might add a few pencils- what other species do you have your eyes on?
Currently waiting on a Pseudojuloides kaleidos to come into the LFS - they’ve said they’ve ordered 5 to come in in 2 weeks so hopefully!

The worst photos I’ve gotten so far but here’s the pencil and male flasher! Both are vigorously feeding on frozen.

Another fairly bad photo but here’s the female (quite possibly juvenile) rubri! There’s red in her caudal fin but it’s harder to see as it’s more on the edge which is why I think she’s juvenile.

@Goaway 's emperor IS looking at the kid in a way...
In actuality, that was the nicest fish i ever had. A big puppy that was easy to bully, unless you were a clove polyp.
She'd hang out with my son when he was at the tank. Assuming she. Could have been morphing into a he.

If anything like my emperor, she didnt care. She was happy, fat slow swimmer, grazed on clove polyps as i could get them. Just a water puppy. The only issue is if you're worried about water quality.

I rehomed due to being told they need large tanks . I should have kept her until she got to 10" and seen if it was true.

Beautiful fish that easily becomes attached to the hand that feeds
Might need to borrow an emperor for my clove situation

Let's keep track of your experience with the Pseudojuloides. Would be good to gather info on how they fare.

That pencil photo is actually almost 100% accurate to his colours! Add a bit more pink to the face patterns and it’s identical.

Hopefully in a few weeks I’ll have some proper photos back to what I usually get of the wrasse gang.

The blue lighting makes the pink face of the pencil look like an iridescent purple/blue colour. It’s gorgeous and I wish I could get it in photos.

We all know how wrasse goes "its the camera, hide!"

Congrats on the new tank! Sorry about the losses during the transfer.

The new wrasses look great! Did you end up keeping the jade?
I kept the jade in hopes with the larger tank he calms down which, so far seems to have been the case.

Bigger tank = bigger jade... he's gonna get huge in that tank! lol

Sounds like your LFS is getting in some awesome wrasses lately. Lucky! Mine got a viviens trio a few weeks ago but they sold before they even unpacked them. Nothing special since then.

Unfortunately tonight we had (hopefully) the last death in a while…
This time it was the tilefish. Unfortunately I think he had a spasm in the night and managed a spinal injury. I was hoping he wouldn’t pass as he seemed to be getting better but unfortunately he didn’t survive it.

I’m lucky that I have 2 main LFSs as one gets in rarer wrasses (That’s the LFS hopefully getting in a Kaleidos in 2 weeks) and the other gets in somewhat common-uncommon wrasses (like the Diamond Tail Flashers) that you don’t see often.
Both focus on rarer species of fish in general but one is better for the rarer wrasses - they’ve had Atavai Pencils in the past.

Lineatus
Bathyphylus/Efatensis
Nahackyi (if I feel like throwing out the money on one)
Attenuatus
Rubricaudalis
Cyanogularis
Piscilineatus (again, if I ever come across one and feel like throwing the money)
Brunneus
Naokoae
Isosceles
Any thoughts on this list for potential fairies/flashers Salty?

Lineatus - they can be butts to smaller fairies... up to you
Bathyphylus - yes, if you can't find nahackyi
Nahackyi - definitely if you can find one instead of bathyphilus
Attenuatus - definitely

Cyanogularis - too aggressive for your group
Piscilineatus - sure why not if you have the money
Brunneus - yes
Naokoae - IMO too aggressive for your group
Isosceles - don't you have one of these in the nano?
